Indian Government Borrowing Rs 40000 Crore from the Market:

India today cartoon “India Zero Tolerance for Corruption”

Indian Government Borrowing Rs 40000 Crore from the Market:

- Harish Jharia

Indian government pronounced on Friday that it will borrow Rs 40,000 crore extra from the market, a move impelled by sluggish tax revenues and rising spending obligations. This is the second additional borrowing announced by the government for the current financial year as public finances have been under pressure.

For common men a simple question arises in their mind that what in fact the government is really doing with the financial management of this country. We think that it is a shameful situation for such a big country that it has to borrow loans from the business houses for its survival.

It is even more shameful for the government who has Indian blocked black money worth Rs 79500 Lakh Crore dumped in Swiss Banks + Rs 176000 Crore eaten away by corrupt politicians in 2G scam + 8000 Crore gulped by Commonwealth Games Officials.

We are borrowing 40 thousand Crore only… Just see the following amount of Indian money that has either been dumped in Switzerland or eaten away by corrupt Indian bigwig(s) right under the nose of the Law Makers and Law Enforcement Authorities…

The details goes as follows:

Black Money Of Indian Bigwigs  In Swiss Banks:

$ 1500 billion
= $ 1500 lakh crore
= Rs 79500 lakh crore
=  Rs 79500000000000000 (quite difficult to count or write)

Money Embezzled In 2g Scam By Indian Telecom Minister A Raja And Company:

Rs 1.76 lakh crore
= Rs 1,76,000 crore
= Rs 1760000000000 (quite difficult to count or write)

Misappropriation Of Money In Commonwealth Games By Suresh Kalmadi And Company:

Rs 8000 crore
= Rs 80000000000 (not so easy to count or write)

Note: I might have committed mistakes while writing the figures, calculating and putting zeros. If so would someone correct those errors... Thanks...

India needs an ombudsman for tackling Corruption And Black Money In High Places: Lokpal vis-à-vis CBI

                      Anna Hazare

© Harish Jharia

What is the meaning of Lokpal?

The concept of Lokpal has been derived from the globally known entity of ‘ombudsman’ that stands for an intermediary body who works between the people and the government for dealing with cases of corruption.  Ombudsmen are also appointed separately in different departments of any government for attending to the grievances and corruption charges reported by the people of that country.

For example, in the USA the Ombudsman International takes complaints regarding public officials and/or public corruption by civil servants. In that regard, they contract a private investigator to investigate the complaint themselves. Should the complaint be found to be true, they will forward the complaint and fact-finding data to the Attorney General and /or other law enforcement agencies.

The history of demand for the Lokpal:

The Indian version of ombudsman is proposed to be ‘The Lokpal’, for which Anna Hazare and his civil society activists have initiated a nationwide stir and forced the reluctant Indian government to initiate process of passing the Lokpal bill in both the houses of parliament of India and make it a law. Not only the politicians in the ruling party Congress were reluctant, even most of the Members of Parliament from other parties were also reluctant for supporting this bill.

The demand for the institution of Indian ombudsman Lokpal was raised by Indian people 40 years back. Since then different drafts of Lokpal bills were tabled in the Indian parliament for dozens of times. But, the Lokpal bill never crossed the acid tests through both the houses of Indian Parliament. The Indian politicians as Members of Parliaments (MPs) did not let it happen.

Now the similar situation has arisen and the controversial government’s draft of Lokpal bill has been passed by the lower house Lok Sabha. Subsequently, it is the turn of the upper house of the Indian parliament Rajya Sabaha to pass the same in the process of making it a law? The people of India are keeping their fingers crossed awaiting the outcome of the verdict of the highest house of power in India.

Lokpal vis-à-vis CBI:

The Indian government’s version of Lokpal bill has a major and serious difference from that of the one drafted by the civil society, headed by the anticorruption crusader Anna Hazare. That is the position of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) vis-à-vis the Lokpal. The government wants the most powerful investigation authority CBI to be under the control and administration of the Indian government.

On the other hand, the civil society headed by Anna Hazare wants that the CBI should be a part of the Lokpal for investigating cases of corruption and fighting the cases against the culprits in the courts of law. Apparently, the CBI is proposed to report to the Lokpal only for the cases of corruption and black money. The Lokpal itself is also proposed to deal with only financial crimes committed at all the levels of governance.

It is better known to the Indian Members of Parliament as to why don’t they want the CBI to function under the administrative control the Lokpal.

Crazy Ideas: Congress MP Rajeev Shukla Speaks In the Upper House Rajya Sabha In Support Of Lokpal Bill

       Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh

While speaking in support of the Indian government’s version of Lokpal Bill, the congress Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Rajeev Shukla said that he did not personally supported inclusion of the Prime Minister to be brought under the jurisdiction of the Lokpal. He continued by saying that it was the Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh, who himself volunteered to bring him under the ambit of Lokpal.

I, as a common man do not understand as to why the incumbent Prime Minister would volunteer himself for the Lokpal Bill that is going to become a law. The Prime Minister has not talked about himself; he has rather talked about the position / office of the Prime Minister that should not have immunity against the jurisdiction of the Lokpal.

Editor's Page: Minorities Are Vote-Banks for Politicians... In 50s We Never Knew That the People Living In a Colony in Narsinghpur Were Muslims

- Harish Jharia

Terrorism and Instability: The artistic and poetic people of Pakistan deserve a better peaceful and democratic life

- Harish Jharia

Sometimes it hurts somewhere inside that the land of Iqbal, Faiz, Noorjehan, Mehdi Hasan and Ghulam Ali who spread the philosophy of love compassion and brotherhood in the Indian subcontinent, has been dominated by terror, instability and stagnation. In spite of being a foreigner, I feel great concern for the innocent beautiful people of my neighboring country Pakistan, who have to live under threats of terrorists’ attacks and even face frequent changes in the governance between military rules and short-lived democratic governments at the national level.

    Indo-Pak Singer Noorjehaa

The life of the common Pakistani people may easily be imagined if the plights of many national leaders and military rulers are considered, who resorted to go in exiles in foreign countries for securing their lives.  Getting political asylum and going in exile in a foreign country is somehow possible for the elite powerful people and the global corporate business chiefs. The common people like Shopkeepers, Clarks, Doctors, Engineers, rickshaw pullers, artisans and laborers etc will have to stay back in their country and face the ever changing political, social and civic conditions in their country.

               Asif Ali Zardari

Some American experts have predicted that Pakistani President Zardari might go in exile in the ongoing conflict between the civilian government and the powerful Army. They also say that if this happens it would only be a follow-up of the time-tested Pakistani tradition of dignitaries seeking political asylums in some friendly countries. Nevertheless, in most of the cases, the friendly countries voluntarily come forward, on their own with bouquets and formal invitations on behalf of their national governments.

            Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto would have been the first dignitary to go on exile when in 1978 he was declared guilty by a Pakistani court. It was reported that Libyan ruler Gaddafi sent an offer of political asylum for Bhutto. However, the Libyan proposal was turned down by the then head of the Pakistan government, Gen Zia-ul-Haq and Bhutto had to undergo the punishment awarded by the court.

Bhutto’s sons kept rushing between Pakistan and some western countries and were finally assassinated. Shahnawaz Bhutto was found dead in a hotel in Nice, France in 1985 and Murtaza Bhutto died in a police encounter in Karachi when his elder sister Benazir Bhutto was the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

               Benazir Bhutto

Before becoming the Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto went into exile, in 1984, after 4 year house arrest / imprisonment. Benazir went into exile again in 1999 when Gen Parvez Musharraf took over the reigns as the new Army ruler. She continued in exile until 2007 when she came back to Pakistan for contesting the general election again and was eventually killed in an election campaign rally.

                 Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif went on 10 year exile under the rule of Gen Parvez Musharraf. Eventually, Musharraf who himself banished two Pakistani Prime Ministers had to set-off on an indefinite exile to a western country.

       Gen Parvez Musharraf

These have been the stories of forced exiles of Pakistani ruling dignitaries when their lives were under threats. Then, what might be the ongoing stories of the common people in Pakistan… the lives of whom are hardly safe as that of those dignitaries?

Why Children Do Not Eat Food: Poor Appetite Makes 5-7 Year Kids Weak

Teach them to chew the food-bites thoroughly and feel its taste...

(Applicable to 5-7 year old children)

“Why my child does not eat?”

© Harish Jharia

“Why my child does not eat?”

…is a common unanswered question in the minds of all the parents about their 6-7 year old children. All of them complain that their kids do not eat food, do not drink milk, hate green vegetables, avoid moderate spicy food and dislike fresh fruits. This condition simply results into children’s weak body and poor growth associated with their frail body language and embarrassing behavior.  Most of the parents neither know the real reasons of children’s poor appetite nor do they have any idea about remedial measures for this problem.

The frustrated parents resort to force-feeding and shouting at the reluctant kids. The children in turn, stuff their mouths with huge chunks of food and swallow it with mouthful of water. Gulping of un-chewed food, results in undesirable excessive load on the delicate digestive systems of children. In turn they acquire health disorders like indigestion, vomiting, constipation and stomach ache. These ailments eventually disturb their day-to-day life and even affect adversely on their sleeps at night.

Most of the parents are not aware of the reasons for this widespread problem, whereas the reasons are quite very simple as follows:
  1. Children use to eat lot of snacks and sweets prior to their meals.
  2. Children do not chew their food and do not feel its taste.
  3. Children do not get adequate exercise due to prolonged viewing of TV and playing computer / mobile games.
Children eat snacks and sweets before meals:
In this corporate world, parents have limited or no time to spend with their children. They find shortcuts to keep their children under control by filling up their refrigerators with plenty of snacks, chocolates, cookies, ice-creams and candies. The children know well that all that stuff is meant for them and they eat the same as and when they feel hungry.

They eat these heavy snacks usually before their meals; that means at about 10am to 12am (prior to 12:30pm* lunch) and somewhere at 6pm to 7pm (prior to 8:30pm* dinner). Children also refuse to take breakfast at 9am* in the similar situations because parents feed them with cookies, biscuits and glassfuls of milk at 7:30am to 8:30am in the morning.

Children do not feel taste of food as they do not chew it well:
I have seen children stuffing their mouths with lumps of food and gulping it with the help of plenty of water. Detailed information about this is furnished in the 2nd paragraph above. While eating, they are usually put in a tensed situation as the parents keep shouting at them for forcing them to eat. Eventually, the children have to swallow the stuff through their dry mouths as their taste buds do not release saliva for creating ‘mouthwatering’ ideal eating conditions. We should remember that the saliva would only be released in the mouth if the food is chewed well.

The parents should teach their children how to chew their food in a proper way. They need to guide the ways the kids should use their tongue to move the semi-chewed food between the grinding teeth. The children should know the utility of chewing by convincing them that they need to chew their food well and by doing so they will feel the real taste of it.

In addition, parents should make the food specially tasty and mouthwatering by adding aromatic mild spices, herbs and lemon juice to them. The children should feel the aroma of the warm fresh delicacies that may initiate the mouthwatering process in their taste buds, well before eating.

Children to get adequate exercise and reduce viewing TV and playing computer / mobile games:
Parents should not have misconceptions about their children that they get adequate workout and exercise in their schools. The children should rather have compulsory evening sessions of outdoor sports or games like soccer (football), cycling, and running at least for an hour at home.  By doing workouts the children will generate strong appetite and will ask for food all by themselves.

The parents would have to control their diet immediately after their evening workout. The child can be given fruits, fruit juices or some other nourishment rather than going for heavy snacks like cookies, biscuits or high sugar candies, chocolates and ice-creams.

The parents will have to remember that the children should have their food after 2 hours of workout. They will have strong appetite at that time and will eat their food without any extra motivation from their elders.

How to make the food appetizing and tasty for 6-7 year children?
Parents always consider their children as small babies. Even children are found reminding their parents that they have become big.  That is the reason why the parents keep feeding their grownup kids with the diet recommended for smaller ones.  The 6-7 year children should not be given food recommended for babies of 3-4 years. They should rather be given food prepared for other members of the family. These grownup children would like to eat food that their parents and other elders eat.

It is better not to impose dietary restrictions on the children that are followed by other members of the family who are suffering from diabetes, hypertension, obesity, or any other disease. If the parent is a ‘size-zero’ enthusiast and has imposed qualitative and quantitative diet restrictions on him or herself then their child should be spared of this diet regime. The children should be given everything that is required for their growth, strength, immunity, body and bones etc.

Following are some of the important points that should be remembered for devising good tasty food for 6-7 year children:
  1. Let the multigrain breads or Atta for preparing Indian roties be used for elders. The children should be given food prepared from pure natural wheat flour that has better taste.
  2. Do not use artificial sweeteners in children’s dish. Give them the real natural sugar. These artificial products like ‘Splenda’ have a different taste that can only be tolerated by adults.
  3. The children deserve natural pure butter. Keep the lite-butter made of vegetable oils for the other members of the family.
  4. ‘Less salt syndrome’ may be fine for the patients of hypertension. Let the children enjoy the taste of natural salt that they like.
  5. Mild aromatic spices and herbs like ginger, white pepper, green coriander, green mint leaves, fresh lemon juice etc should be added for enhancing appetizing fragrances of fresh dishes.

Rajinikanth's Son-in-law’s blockbuster song: “Why this kolaveri kolavri kolaveri di…”

Rajinikanth's Son-in-law’s blockbuster song: “Why this kolaveri kolavri kolaveri di…”

© Harish Jharia

“Why this kolaveri kolavri kolaveri di… ” is the opening line of a song written in Tamilized erroneous English. The song has been composed in a down to earth simple tune and sung with funny English accent. This song is believed to be marketed through SMSs, emails and words of mouth that is a marketing trick popularly known as ‘viral marketing’*. The promotional video of this song has crossed 5 million hits mark on YouTube.

We have brought this video for the visitors to ‘Discover Life’…

              Shruti Hasan

This song is a part of Rajnikanth’s daughter Aishwarya’s directorial debute… ‘3’…! The Tamil film ‘3’ has Rajnikanh’s son-in-law Dhanush and Kamal Hasan’s daughter Shruti Hasan in the lead roles.

This video shows Dhanush recording a song in an audio recording studio along with his wife Aishwarya, heroine Shruti Haasan and the debutant music director Anirudh Ravichander.

                                  Dhanush

It is reported in the media that Dhanush admits that the song has no meaning and is completely a nonsense (meaningless). He says "It feels nice when people are open with their praise for your work. I honestly didn't think the song would be such a craze. This has made me realize that people universally want only simple lyrics and simpler tune from filmmakers. My poor broken English lyrics, written in a silly tone, and borderline singing has proved to be advantageous for the success of this song," the national award-winning actor told a leading daily.

Here are the lyrics of the Kolaveri Di song:

Why this kolaveri kolavri kolaveri di
White skin-u girl-u girl-u,
girl-u heart-u black-u.
Eyes-u eyes-u meet-u meet-u, my future dark ...
Why this Kolaveri
Kolaveri Kolaveri Di,
Why this Kolaveri
Kolaveri Kolaveri Di

*Viral marketing: Viral marketing depends on a high pass-along rate from person to person. If a large percentage of recipients forward something to a large number of friends, the overall growth snowballs very quickly. If the pass-along numbers get too low, the overall growth quickly fizzles.
