Infertility Treatment (गर्भधारण में रुकावट का उपचार) by IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) or ‘Test Tube Baby’ Treatment

                                3 Stages of IVF:
1. Extraction of egg, 2. Fertilization with sperm, 3. Implant of embryo in uterus

Why do we want to have children?

A man and a woman marry to launch a family that consists of husband, wife and children. These are the three essential ingredients, in absence of any one of them, a family is considered incomplete. Mere presence of children makes a family colorful, charming, exciting and enchanting. A child carries our legacy, linage and genetic generations.

How and when children are born:

We all know the process of reproduction out of which children are born in our families. Nevertheless, the age of the parents is the most crucial factor that decides the capability of the mother and father to reproduce a child.  The most suitable and fertile age for women is between 18 to 27 years. After the age of 27 her fertility starts declining and ends with the menopause somewhere around 50 years.   Similarly, the fertility in men is considered to be at its peak between 18 to 35 years of age that depletes thereafter until they reach the stage of male-menopause approximately at 55-60 years.

Therefore, it is obviously clear that the youngsters should plan their marriage and bear children as long as the women is well within the age bracket of 18 to 27 and the men within 18 to 35 year slot.  Beyond the above age brackets, not only fertility of parents depletes, even there are possibilities of birth defects like 'Down Syndrome' in the children born to aged parents.

What can be done if motherhood is not practicable in younger age?

Postponement of motherhood has been made possible by freezing the prospective mother’s eggs, well in advance in her 20s, under controlled laboratory conditions. Harvesting of eggs enables young women to fulfill their professional and corporate commitments and become mothers at a later age and at their convenience.

What factors are responsible for depleted fertility of women?

After the age of approximately around 27, the fertility of women starts depleting as the rate of production and quality of eggs reduces, successively, with their biological age. Many women develop blockage in their Fallopian tubes. Fallopian tubes are conduit pipes that carry eggs, every month, from the two ovaries to the uterus and help the process of bearing a child. But, in case of blocked Fallopian tubes the eggs are not able to reach the uterus and the woman is rendered unable to bear a child.

How to bear a child after crossing the most fertile age slot:

As discussed in the preceding paragraphs, the fertility of a woman is at its peak within the age slot of 18 to 27. After that age, motherhood becomes difficult (गर्भधारण में रुकावट) for women who marry in their 30s. In such cases most of the women who suffer from infertility problems opt for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment.

What is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment?

The term 'In Vitro', is a Latin word that means "Within the glass".  This treatment is more popularly known as ‘test tube baby’ treatment.  In the IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment, mother’s eggs are extracted from ovaries and fertilized with sperm outside her body in glass containers such as petri dishes, under controlled environmental conditions in biological laboratories. The fertilized egg that eventually develops into an embryo is then transferred to   mother’s uterus.

Selection, preparation, Fertilization of Eggs and Embryo culture:

The most healthy and suitable eggs out of the extracted eggs from the mother’s ovaries are carefully selected for fertilization in the laboratory. These selected eggs are then thoroughly cleaned of the surrounding unwanted cells and placed in petri dishes for fertilization with healthy and active sperms.

The carefully selected eggs and sperms are then incubated together at a ratio of about 1:75000 in the culture media for duration of about 18 hours. Generally, in most of the cases, the egg will be fertilized in 18 hours and the fertilized egg will show up symptoms of the same.  The fertilized egg is then passed on to a special growth medium and left there for a period of about 48 hours until the egg develops into six to eight cells embryos.

Implant of embryo in the uterus:

Once the embryos are fully fertilized, the prospective mother will be called to the IVF facility and the doctors will transfer one or more embryos into her uterus. This procedure of implant is a bit quicker and easier than the complicated retrieval of egg from ovaries. The doctor will insert a catheter through her cervix and into the uterus, where the embryos are eventually implanted.

Most of the IVF experts recommend implanting more than one embryo at a time to increase the chances of pregnancy. Nevertheless, multiple embryo implants may result into multiple pregnancies, delivering twins or more.  After the implant, the prospective mother would be required to stay in bed for four to six hours.

About two weeks after the embryo implant, the doctors would preferably perform a pregnancy test on the mother for ensuring the success of the IVF treatment

Bollywood celebrities opted for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) rather than remaining childless and declared the same to the world:

Many celebrities in the world have opted for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) rather than remaining childless throughout their lives. Most of them have preferred to give wide publicity of the same to encourage people of the world to go for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and have their own children, rather than being childless couples.

Among Indian film celebrities, most of the film stars who married late could not bear children. Nevertheless, some of them have opted for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) recently and become proud parents. The world famous Bollywood actor and producer Amir khan and the famous director, choreographer and actor Farah Khan are the two celebrities who have proudly declared that they have recently got children out of IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

The most celebrated couple Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao have proudly announced to the world about the arrival of their baby boy, ‘Azad’ by IVF and through a surrogate mother; whereas, another well-known celebrity Farah Khan has become mother of triplets named Czar, Diva and Anya through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

Manglik Syndrome (मांगलिक दोष): The deadliest superstition that left thousands of Hindu girls unmarried

मांगलिक दोष: एक सर्वाधिक घातक अंधविश्वास जिसने हज़ारों हिंदू कन्याओं को आजीवन अविवाहित रहने पर मजबूर कर दिया है...

© Harish Jharia

  1. Sun – सूर्य (Surya)
  2. Moon - चन्द्र (Chandra)
  3. Mercury - बुध (Budha)
  4. Venus - शुक्र (Śukra)
  5. Mars - मंगल (Maṅgala)
  6. Jupiter - बृहस्पति (Bṛhaspati)
  7. Saturn - शनि (Śani)
  8. Dragons Head – राहू (Rahu)
  9. Dragons Tail-  केतु (Ketu)

Manglik Syndrome: Unconvincing Basis of Manglik Tag for Matrimonial Purpose

Click on the image to enlarge

© Harish Jharia

There are many superstitious beliefs prevailing among Hindus across the world and ‘Manglik Syndrome’ is one of them. I earlier believed that Manglik Syndrome was only rampant among the Hindus living in India. Nevertheless, I recently received a message from a reader from United Kingdom, commenting on my article on the same subject published on this site ‘Discover Life’. The anonymous visitor has expressed anguish over the Manglik Syndrome that is also prevalent among Hindus migrated to other lands like US, UK and Europe.

Manglik tag is attached to those Hindu boys and girls who are born on a specific date, time and place when planet mars (मंगल) sets in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house / zodiac sign / rashi (राशि) on their birth chart / janma kundli (जन्म कुंडली). Indian astrology claims that the Manglik people are born on inauspicious time and place and are dangerous for themselves and for those to whom they are married to.

I have suspicions on this theory because the question of being Manglik comes only at the time of marriage of the Manglik person. The so-called Manglik people do not pose dangers to the people in their society, family and relations as long as they remain single. They are only believed to become dangerous once they are married to someone and after becoming spouses. This theory does not appear to be convincing.

What are the houses / rashies (राशि) where the planets use to set-in?

The 12 Houses (राशि) in Indian astrology are the Locations of planets in the Sky / Zodiac. A house is an imaginary slot where the planets are positioned at different times during their journey in the sky (on their orbits across the space....?).

For calculating the houses (राशि), with respect to a particular point on the earth surface at a particular date and time, the 360 degree sky / Zodiac is equally divided into 12 houses of 30 degrees each across the earth surface (flat and horizontal).

In the Hindu system of astrology, each house from the 1st house to 12th house is represented by a specific zodiac sign called Raashi (राशि). These 12 zodiac signs, called 12 Raashis (राशि) are considered for making birth charts / janma kundalis (जन्म कुंडली). These houses / raashis (राशि) have seven celestial bodies as their ruling planets (including Sun and Moon). All these 7 celestial bodies viz Mars, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Sun, Jupiter and Saturn (including Sun and Moon) are called planets in Hindu astrology.

The 12 houses are calculated / drawn relatively for a particular person born at a particular time and place on earth. Accordingly, for that particular person the relative position of the above 7 planets in each of the 12 houses / rashies (राशि) are also calculated. That is the reason why Date of birth, time of birth, time-zone and place of birth (latitude and longitude of the place of birth) are considered for generating birth charts / janma kundalis (जन्म कुंडली).

The Manglik character of a person is identified from the presence of Mars (मंगल) in one or more of the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th houses / zodiac signs / rashies (राशि). The severity of the Manglik syndrome मंगल दोष is calculated arbitrarily considering the character and nature of that particular house, the planet present at that moment and of course on the number of houses where planet Mars is present simultaneously.

Brief description of various houses / zodiac signs / rashies (राशि) is furnished as follows:

Manglik Syndrome - mangal dosha affects married life adversely claims Indian astrology

Are we Hindus predators...? Believing on these baseless superstitions and marrying trees and animals...???

Question: Is it a crime or sin if you are born a 'Manglik' or 'Mangali'...?
Answer: Definitely no... you are absolutely a normal human being.

© Harish Jharia

The most dreaded situation in the life of Hindu parents arises when their daughter is pronounced as ‘Manglik’. This declaration made by an astrologer or a pundit is nothing less than a death sentence for the parents as well as for the poor daughter herself.  There are many unmarried Hindu women present in our society who have to remain spinsters, throughout their lives, for the simple reason that they are Mangliks. In other cases Manglik women have to marry grooms who are not compatible to them.

My aim for writing this article is to tell my Hindu brethren to shed off the fear of ‘Manglik dosha’ syndrome because studies and statistics say that nothing will happen if you are one of the so called Mangliks. I do not find any valid reasons for us Hindus to postpone; avoid or cancel marriages of our sons and daughters just because they happen to be pronounced as Manglik by Indian astrologers, pundits or pujaries (priests).

I tried to understand as to what exactly the Manglic constellation is which can influence the lives of humans on the earth and make their marriages unsuccessful, failures or can even kill either of the bride or the groom.

Here are the outcome of my study…

What is the effect of Mangal (Mars) on marriages as claimed by Indian astrology?

In spite of being billions of miles away from us, Indian astrology believes that the planet Mangal (Mars) has direct effect on us in India that can spoil our married life and might even kill one of the married brides or grooms? They say that Mars represents anger in North India whereas Mangal is known as ‘Kuja’ that means ‘burning coal’ in south India that depicts its aggressive temperament. I do not understand as to how a celestial body can have feelings, emotions or temperament?

How Mangal (Mars) adversely affect prospective brides and grooms as claimed by Indian astrology:

As per Indian Astrology Mangalik Dosha appears in the birth chart of the bride or the groom that is made based on the time, date, year and the position of the birthplace on earth in terms of Longitudes and latitudes.

What are Birth charts / horoscopes / Janma Patrikas / Kundalies:

                 The Circular Birthchart

Birth charts (horoscope / Janma Patrika / Kundali) are drawn in square shapes. These charts are divided into 12 cells (houses).  Each of these houses represents positions of planets at 30 degrees apart, vis-à-vis the Sun, making the total of 12 x 30 =360 degrees.  It is apparently believed to be depending on the movement of the planets around the Sun through 360 degrees.

The South Indian Birth Chart:

Look at the following birth chart that is drawn by South Indian astrologers. This chart has 12 houses, numbered in clockwise direction, in which the positions of planets are recorded vis-à-vis that of the sun.  Look at the geometrical formation of houses that has 4 houses made along each side of the square all at the periphery of the square.

The North Indian Birth Chart:

Look at the following birth chart that is followed by North Indian astrologers. This chart has 12 houses, numbered in anticlockwise direction, in which the positions of planets are recorded vis-à-vis that of the sun. Look at the geometrical formation of houses that has 4 houses made in a centrally located square and 8 triangular houses made around the same.

What formation of Birth Chart shows Mangalik Dosha?

According to Hindu astrology, an individual will be called Manglik if planet mars is shown in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th house of his or her birth chart. The worst type of Manglik dosha is considered when Mangal shows up in the 7th house.

Planet Mangal / Mars is shown in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th house in Mangalik Dosha Horoscope. Mangal needs to be in any one of these 5 houses for branding you as a Manglik or Mangali

Nevertheless, no statistics are available proving that such constellations are really harmful or deadly for the affected individuals. No one or no any authority has ever conducted any survey of Mangalik people marrying against the astrologer’s advices and any ill effect of the same including death after their marriages.

No other schools of thoughts among astrologers of other religions in India or those across the world believe in this theory. Some schools of thoughts believe that almost more than 65% people in the world can be tagged as ‘Manglik’ if their horoscopes are made on this theory.

Hindi Poem: Kshitij Se Aage (Beyond Horizon)

Teenage: The Turning Point in The Girls' Lives...

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

Teenage is the threshold, crossing through which, you cease to be a girl / boy… and turn into a woman / man… It is just like the process through which flowers drop their petals for turning into fruits…

This is the age when you carry the peak of your beauty, tenderness and emotions… you love and are loved the most…all the eyes turn towards you when you move around in a crowd… you bask in glory…

you need not be an extremely good looking person your teenage gives you all that attraction that pulls attention of onlookers…

On the other hand you undergo through a rigorous hormonal upsurge… that eventually create all sorts of changes in your anatomy… physically, constitutionally and psychologically. You encounter hypersensitiveness, restlessness, indecisiveness, possessiveness, stresses, attractions, repulsions, ego, jealousy and likes…

There is nothing good or bad… all that you go through is natural… and you need not worry… if you discover any of such feeling in yourself… just keep cool… maintain a low profile… remember that you are a human being… and you are bound to face all this…

Here comes the role of your parents and siblings from whom you seek guidelines… go to them and ask your doubts…

What is The Right Age for Girls to Marry

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

Aging starts earlier in women as compared to men and if both of you want to look equally young / old after you cross 35 years of age… then 7 - 8 year difference with the prospective groom, would be right for you.

There was an article in 7th July 09 Newspaper conveying a message that “if there is an age difference of 9 – 10 years between husband and wife than the chances of longer life for both is more”.

Couples with almost same age usually quarrel out of ego problems. If husband is 8 year senior to you then it would be quite comfortable for you to respect him and follow his advice.

For girls, 23 is the best age for marrying because at this age they finish their degree in academics and are ready biologically, for going for a married life.

Nevertheless, girls who are going for professional degrees like BTech, BE, MBA, MTech, MS etc usually wait until 24 – 25 waiting for their academics to finish.

25 yrs of age is equally fine for professionally qualified girls… yet in my view this age is on the borderline of 27 being the maximum suitable age for girls to marry. If they cross 30 then I think it would be a bit late.

Beyond this age (30 years) the later you go for marriage the chances of problems in reproductive system would be more. There are comparatively more cases of childless couples, where the wife had married after 30.

Superstitions: Can horoscope calculations really give authentic predictions?

© Harish Jharia

I think planets use to form constellations or raashis based on their own natural movements in the space... and create different views (aakritiyan), as they look from this planet earth...

I think they do not adjust and readjust themselves to influence a particular person among thousands of billions of human beings on earth… and write / re-write his / her destiny… based on their karma… from a remote distance of millions of millions miles away…

It is a coincidence that a particular planet makes a typical formation with other planets... Eventually synchronizing with his / her birth-raashis / constellations...

Moreover, we do not know... How all these celestial bodies synchronize with his / her karmas (deeds)...? That he / she individually does on the earth…!

We should fight back against the adversities of life, in practical ways in order to achieve success, rather than waiting for the ‘griha-dashaa’ to change in our favor

It is definitely possible for us to make ways, define our destiny for a successful life by doing good deeds (karma), and strive hard… leaving no stone unturned… and struggling on the hard and harsh surface of realistic world…

Mangalik daughters' wedding... What is the problem?

© Harish Jharia

I am not an astrologer… nevertheless; I am not convinced with the theory of being a ‘Mangalik’…

I don’t know whether your daughter is Mangalik or not, yet, I strongly believe that nothing bad is going to happen with her if you solemnize her marriage with a thoroughly scrutinized groom… in respect of his family background, character, emotional status, education, job, income etc…

The potential couple will lead a healthy, happy, prosperous and well-to-do prolonged life… if the groom is compatible to your daughter in most of their characteristics…

Please do not refuse an alliance if any party comes forward with an offer without taking ‘Mangalik part’ in consideration…

You might be aware of many couples who live horrendous lives… in spite of having married… with all the precautions in respect of the Manglik regime…

Please be careful about your daughter’s future… and do not be carried-away by superstitions...
