Sci-Fi Super hero film Krrish 3 - released on November 1st with packed houses

Krrish-3 has been released on 1st November 2013. We watched Krrish 3 on 4th November evening in a multiplex where all the three theaters at the same floor, were showing Krrish 3 simultaneously with full houses.

Krrish 3 is a sequel to the previous two movies 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Krrish'.  The theme in this movie has changed a little bit with far more superior cinematography and action shots. The makers of this film proudly claim that all the action shots have been filmed and composed in India. 

Story line:
Koi Mil Gaya: The story of Krish series starts with the first movie of this series 'Koi Mil Gaya' with the lead character Rohit Mehra, (Hririk Roshan), who was suffering from poor intellectual development disorder. Rohit’s late father was a space scientist who succeeded in making contacts with the people of some other planet. Rohit used to fiddle with the computer left behind by his late father. His mother was scared about space science activities, because her husband had died an unnatural death while working on such projects. Rohit accidentally invites aliens from an unknown planet and gets extra intellectual powers from one of the aliens. 

Krrish: In the second film ‘Krrish’, Rohit was wrongly believed to have been died leaving behind his son Krrish, born with supernatural powers. Krrish, subsequently discovers his father under custody of an evil scientist Arya (Nasiruddin Shah) and gets him released.

Krrish-3: is the third film in this series that portrays the life of Krrish, possessing all the supernatural powers. The story of this sequel has been slightly linked to the second movie in the Krrish series. It is depicted in Krrish 3 that the main negative character ‘Kaal’ (Vivek Oberoy) in Krrish 3 was in fact the test-tube brother of Krrish. He was developed by the evil scientist Arya (Nasiruddin Shah) in his laboratories, out of the genes of Krishna’s father Rohit Mehra. 

The story of Krrish-3 now revolves around five main characters that are Krrish (Hrithik Roshan), his father Rohit (Hrithik Roshan), his test-tube brother Kaal (Vivek Oberoi) and the lead female character Priya played by Priyanka Chopda. The fifth character in the film is Kaya played by Kangana Ranaut. The film has become more interesting as most of the characters, except Priya, are possessing supernatural powers. 

Kaal, in spite of having all the supernatural powers is paralyzed all over his body, except his head and fingers. He is confined to a hi-tech wheelchair, from where he controls the huge infrastructure of his laboratories engaged in genetic engineering. Kaal has a peculiar blood group with strong antibodies against any virus or bacteria. He uses his own genes to develop viruses of incurable diseases and their remedial antidotes as well. Then his agents use to spread the virus in a particular population and initiate the outbreak of the disease that spreads fast and ends in an epidemic. Then Kal’s company releases the medicine for the treatment of the same and earns billions out of it. Kaal, then targets India for his evil plans and initiates the epidemic in Mumbai. The story then moves on along this line and finally the ‘good’ defeats the ‘bad’. 

Review:
Krrish-3 is an excellent film worth watching for everyone in the family. However, there is a short kissing scene in the film that has been filmed quite decently and could be accepted by Indian viewers. Hritik Roshan is simply superb and I can say confidently that no other Indian actor could replace him in this character. Hritik has acted yet more effectively in the role of Krrish’s father Rohit, so much so that the viewers would simply forget that both the roles are played by the same actor. Prinka Chopra has also done extremely well in the movie.

Vivek Oberoi has done extremely well in the role of Kaal with incredible face expressions and his deep wonderful voice inherited from his father Suresh Oberoi. The other impressive character is Kaya played by Kangana Ranaut that leaves a strong impression in the minds of viewers. It is clearly evident that Kangna must have done exhaustive workouts for developing the reflexes and body language of a supernatural creature named ‘Manwar’ (Manav + Janwar) a mixture of human and animal. 

Rakesh Roshan and his team have done excellent work in all departments like story, direction, cinematography, music, background scores, sound, editing etc. Krish-3 is a wonderful movie that is worth watching. It is a ‘paisa vasool’ (worth your money) and a must see movie.

How to remove hard water stains from bathroom fittings

Hard water stains are also called lime scales. They are chalky white mineral deposits left behind, after evaporation of hard water drops from the surfaces of bathroom fittings like showers, faucets and taps etc. These stains are so strongly adhered to the surface of the fittings, that they cannot be removed by normal washing by soaps and detergents.

Hard water stains can only be cleaned with specific cleaning agents and of course by following an easy procedure. Bathroom fittings should be regularly cleaned at frequent intervals where there is hard water supplied to the bathrooms. Otherwise, the thin films of lime stains will develop into thick hard scales of the mineral deposits. These thick scales are very difficult to be removed and will also deteriorate the surface of the fittings. 

Here is a simple and easy way to remove hard water stains from bathroom fittings with the help of tools and material available at home. 

Materials and tools required:
  1. White Vinegar
  2. Dish cleaning powder (like Vim)
  3. Round brush or old toothbrush or sponge 
Procedure:
  1. Take some dish cleaning powder and mix equal quantity of white vinegar to make a thick solution
  2. Immediately after making the solution, smear the same generously on the surface of the bathroom fitting, with the help of brush / sponge, covering it with a thick layer of the solution.
  3. Leave it for about 5 minutes
  4. Then rub it gently with the brush or sponge thoroughly, adding additional cleaning solution
  5. Rinse the fitting thoroughly with normal water … You will get a sparkling clean surface

1000 Ton Gold Treasure Hunt at Daundiya Kheda, Unnao - ASI Begins Excavation for Buried Treasure

An unknown sadhu Swami Shobhan Sarkar of Sri Shobhan Ashram, Daundiya Kheda, Unnao, reportedly had a dream that the ex-local ruler Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh talked to him. The raja told Shobhan Sarkar in his dream, about a huge golden treasure buried under a mound in the premises of the royal fort situated at Daundiya Kheda, Unnao, now in ruins.

This information about sadhu’s dream has not been disclosed by Swami Shobhan Sarkar himself, who has not come in front of cameras or spoken to the media as yet. Instead, his disciple Swami Om ji Awasthi is speaking on his behalf. The spokesperson has informed that the highly respected local seer Shobhan Sarkar had told the Union minister Charan Das Mahant that the country’s financial troubles will be eradicated if the gold was excavated and deposited in the government treasury. 

It is further reported that consequently, the central government directed the district magistrate of Unnao on September 3 to for making arrangements for the excavation. On the directives of the district administration and the government, a team of the ASI officials surveyed the area indicated by the saint. The ASI spokespersons subsequently said that they had found signs of the presence of the nonmagnetic / nonconductive material / metal at 15-20 metre depth. Some TV channels reported the depth as 15 – 20 feet.

Eventually, Shobhan Sarkar performed a pooja at the spot before the sunrise and excavation started by ASI personnel on 19 October 2013. By that time the unknown village Daundiya Kheda of Unnao district, captured a prominent place on the world map. TV crews journalists of print media from all over the world, converged at this hamlet inhabited by poor farmers and farm laborers. 

What are dreams:

The sadhu says that he has seen a dream and talked to Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh. Firstly you cannot see anybody without light and without your eyes open. You cannot see the king if he is not present in front of your eyes and thoroughly illuminated for the human eyes to form an image on the retina. In fact dreams are sensations of the thoughts that human brain keeps thinking in deep sleeps. If the sadhu has dreamt about a treasure-trove, that means he must be thinking about some treasure buried underground. It has nothing to do with any real treasure.

Is the story of treasure-trove dream true or fake:

This is the first question that flashes in our mind when we come across this medieval theory of a sadhu dreaming about a treasure-trove of a king who lived 160 years back. The king appears in person in the year 2013 and tells the sadhu about the exact location as precise as the area of a small room ie 10’ x 10’. 

The most unbelievable part of the episode is the unit of weight declared by the sadhu and that is in ‘Tons’. The sadhu claims that the treasure has 1000 Ton gold. In other reports TV news bulletins were also talking of 2500 Tons of gold. It looks as if all of these people are making fool of we Indians and the Indian government has acted in yet more thoughtless way by ordering the excavation.

Now, it is left to the readers to decide whether the treasure-trove story is true or fake.

What is the difference between Cheese (चीज़) and Paneer (पनीर)

Cheese and Paneer are almost similar dairy products but quite different in taste, texture and other characteristics. The processes of preparation of cheese and paneer are also different. Paneer’s preparation is quite simple and it can be done at home with the tools and ingredients available in domestic kitchens; whereas, the preparation of cheese is a bit complex and needs specific tools, ingredients and expertize for making it. 

How is Paneer made: 




For making paneer out of 1 litre of milk, you need 3-4 spoonful of lemon juice, muslin cloth, strainer, and two- 2 litre cooking utensils (पतीले). 

Heat the milk in a cooking utensil, until it reaches its boiling point. Put off the fire and add 1 spoonful of lemon juice at a time and keep stirring the milk constantly. Add 2nd and 3rd spoonful of lemon juice at reasonable gaps and keep stirring the hot milk until the milk disintegrates into curds and whey (दूध का पानी).

Now, put the strainer on another utensil; spread muslin cloth on it and pour the disintegrated milk over it, straining out the whey into the utensil. Keep aside the whey and preserve it for future use in place of lemon juice.  

Then rinse the curds thoroughly with fresh water. Remove the curds along with the muslin cloth and wrap the cloth around the curds tightly into a desired shape and keep it pressed under a weight of approximately 2kg for 3 hours. Remove the weight when all the whey squeezes out and the curds become firm and solid. Finally, soak the block of curds in ice water for 5 minute and remove the paneer from the cloth. 

How is Cheese made:




There are many types of cheese and are prepared with as many methods. Although, cheese in its most basic form involves curdling milk and then separating the solids from the whey, some cheeses undergo additional steps and need more time for preparation. The variety of cheese, the taste, texture, color, and aroma depends on what process it goes through thereafter. 

1. Curdling:
Curdling (जमाना) milk is the first step for separating the milk solids from the liquid including whey protein and water. The milk is curdled by adding an enzyme (fermenter) such as rennet (जामन). 

Rennet is the oldest method of curdling milk as it is found in the stomach linings of ruminants (जुगाली करने वाले जानवर). Rennet is an enzyme that denatures the proteins in milk and forming curds (छैना). Curds formed with rennet have a gel-like consistency that allows them to be stretched and molded unlike curds formed as paneer. Cheeses with good melting qualities, such as mozzarella, are produced with rennet. Nowadays, rennet is produced in bulk by genetically modifying bacteria to produce the required enzyme. This allows for an unlimited amount of rennet to be produced at a much lower price.

2. Processing:
  1. After curds are separated from the whey, they undergo processing eventually producing distinct varieties of cheese sold in the market.
  2. Many cheeses are heated and salted for further squeezing out more moisture. The more moisture squeezed out of the curd, the harder would be the cheese. This also allows the longevity of cheese, when the salt will provide extra flavor.
  3. Some cheeses such as mozzarella undergo stretching process for aligning the proteins and developing fibers giving the cheese a stringy texture.
  4. Milder cheeses, such as Colby or Gouda are passed through several washings for reducing its acidity and proving mild and creamy flavor to shine through.
3. Ripening:
Ripening or aging process is applied to provide much different flavors for specific varieties of cheese. Cheese is stored under controlled environmental conditions in order to let natural microbes to transform proteins and other constituents into various highly flavored compounds. Many cheeses are applied with specific bacteria for producing desired flavor, color and texture. 

Gasses generated by bacteria in Swiss cheese get entrapped within the cheese and create the classic bubble texture. The distinct blue veining in blue cheese is also created by bacteria that get inoculated in the cheese.

India successfully test-fired nuclear capable Agni-II Missile (IRBM)

Agni-II, a 2000km plus medium-range, nuclear capable missile has been successfully test-fired by India today on 7 April 2013 from Wheeler Island, off Odisha (erstwhile Orissa) coast. As per defense sources, the trial of the surface-to-surface missile was conducted at around 10.20 am from a mobile launcher of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).

As published in the press, Agni-II, Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) has already been inducted in the Armed Forces. Today’s test was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Indian Army, as a part of their training exercises. The logistic support has been provided by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

The two-stage missile has been, equipped with advanced high-accuracy navigation system. It has been guided by a latest state-of-the art command and control system. Agni-II has been filled-in with solid rocket propellant.

A defense representative said that the entire trajectory of the projectile was tracked by a hi-tech battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations and optoelectronic instrumentation etc, installed on naval ships around the impact point in deep seas area.
The 20-metre-long Agni-II Missile is a two-stage, solid-propellant ballistic missile. It weighs 17 ton and is capable of carrying a payload of 1,000 kg across a distance of 2,000 km.

Agni-II Missile is a part of the Agni series of missiles being developed by the DRDO. Sources said that the Agni series includes Agni-I Missile with 700 km range; Agni-III Missile with 3,000 km range; Agni-IV Missile with 4,000 km range and Agni-V Missile with a 5,000+ km range.

The Most Beautiful And Heaviest Flying Bird: Great Indian Bustard, Son Chiraiyya, सोन चिरैया, Ardeotis Nigriceps

One of the most endangered species among Indian birds is the ‘Great Indian Bustard’ lovingly called ‘Son Chiraiyya’ (सोन चिरैया) in Hindi, with the scientific name 'Ardeotis Nigriceps'.

Indian folklore about the great Indian Bustard (Son Chiraiyya) सोन चिरैया:

I still remember my childhood days of early 50s when I used to hear about Son Chiraiyya in folk stories, folk songs and village life. I remember mothers crying at the time of their daughter’s departure after marriages and whispering the words “My Son Chiraiyya has fluttered away..!” (मेरी सोन चिरैया उड़ गई रे..!). Son Chiraiyya was extensively loved and remembered among common folks as well as in contemporary literature including novels, stories and poems. But, I never saw the bird in my life in its natural habitat. I, of course, had a chance to see this wonderful bird in the national zoo in Hyderabad.

The great Indian Bustard is one of the largest and heaviest flying birds in the world. Its height above the ground and length is approximately 1 meter each and it weighs about 8 to 15 kg. This extremely endangered terrestrial bird’s species was once flourishing across the grasslands of undivided India, but today is total population has reduced to 250 birds and are confined to small patches of grasslands in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh in India. 

These birds are not selective eaters. Their diet depends on the seasonal availability of food. They eat grass seeds; insects like grasshoppers and beetles, and even go for small rodents and reptiles. They are built to survive in harsh weather conditions, yet they have gone extinct because of hunting and poaching. They have been annihilated from almost 90% of their grasslands they inhabited have been converted into agricultural land and urbanized into villages, towns and cities.

In spite of the fact that they are listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of India, 1972, they are still being hunted for sport and meat by aristocrats.  

Historical References about The great Indian Bustard: 

Descriptions of the great Indian Bustard are found in the Rajput, Mogul and Maratha periods’ history also. Warriors of that period, especially the Moghuls and British shooters were fond of hunting the great Indian Bustard as it was considered a highly skilled hunting adventure by shooting a fast flying target. Moghuls and British soldiers in India considered it a delicacy. The great Indian Bustard was among the top game-birds of that period and that was the reasons that the great Indian Bustard has become extinct (दुर्लभ) today.

Editor’s Page: Comments Of Anonymous Visitors to Discover Life Site Are Filtered to ‘Spam Folder’ By Security Software


Dear Visitors,

Yesterday morning I was just updating my site ‘Discover Life’; doing some editing, corrections and removing digital trash as a regular exercise. I also checked the comments section in the dash board just to see whether any comments have been held back by the security software of the site. 

To my surprise I found that there were approximately 300 odd comments of anonymous visitors, out of the total 616, docked in the ‘Spam’ folder. On scrutinizing the blocked comments, I found that all those comments were genuine messages left by the visitors and not spams.

Now I have removed 'Spam' tags from all the blocked comments and started replying each comment one by one. I am working overtime for acknowledging and replying messages posted by all the 300 odd anonymous visitors to 'Discover Life' Site. 

I would like to express my regrets for not regularly checking the ‘Spam’ folder in the ‘Comments’ section, as a result of which the valuable comments of the visitors were blocked on ‘Discover Life’ Site. 

I request all my visitors to keep visiting ‘Discover Life’ site, more frequently and leave comments… as many as possible. 

I assure the visitors that their comments will not be blocked any more.

Makar Sankranti is apparently the only Hindu festival that always falls on the same day every year on 14th January. Hindu festivals are basically calculated according to Indian Panchangas (पंचांग) that are based on Indian lunar calendar. On the other hand the internationally followed Christian calendar is based on western solar astrology. As a result of the difference between the movements of Earth and Moon vis-à-vis the ceaseless changing position of Sun in the sky, the Hindu festivals never fall on the same day of the Christian calendar, every year, with an exception of ‘Makar Sankranti’.

Product Development-Two Piece Toothbrush: Let Us Design Toothbrush with Replaceable Bristle-Heads on Toothbrush Handle

The current design of tooth brushes is of an old outdated pattern that might be about half a century old concept. We buy tooth brushes costing between Rs 16/- to Rs 75/- (a few toothbrushes even cost Rs 125+) and discard them after a month as the bristles outlive their lives. The bristles lose their flexibility, become hard and spread outwards. Due to these decays and deformities of bristles, the toothbrushes lose their utility and are thrown away within a month. 

We discard our toothbrushes in spite of the fact that only 10% of the product perishes and 90% of the same remains fine and intact. Discarding a toothbrush that is 90% usable is a criminal wastage of the hard-earned money.  

I always felt pain while discarding a complete toothbrush even when only its bristles could have been replaced. Frequent discarding of toothbrushes results into disposal problems in India, because, India does not have an organized infrastructure for sorting trash and recycle the same.  

This avoidable frequent waste would result into recurring personal losses of the consumers as well as huge collective losses to the national exchequer of individual countries. These losses would eventually go to the extent of billions of dollars if calculated globally. This is because of the fact that hundreds of billions of world population uses millions of tons of toothbrushes and discard them frequently.  

Product Development:

Discover Life advises to the toothbrush manufacturers to design two-piece toothbrushes, with durable handles and replaceable bristle heads. Consumers should have the freedom to buy a toothbrush handle on which different bristle-heads could be fitted. They may discard the old bristle-heads after they outlive their lives and replace the same with new ones.  


Please do not confuse this product development item with the existing ‘two-piece travel toothbrush’ available in the market

Thereafter, toothbrush handles and bristle-heads would be sold separately in the market and the consumers will have freedom to select each part of the toothbrush of their own choice. 

Product Standardization:

Toothbrush handle and bristle-heads will have to be globally standardized so that the consumer can buy bristle-heads of their choice from anywhere and fix the same on their toothbrush handle.

Today is 21 December 2012 and the sun has already risen in Australia and Asia.  The sun is going to rise in Europe and America in a few hours and declare the holocaust date of 21 December 2012. I am sure nothing bad or good is going to happen in the world just because of the Mayan prediction of the dooms day. 

Now we should stop believing on any sorts of predictions based on any ancient or modern astrology; because, predictions for future happenings are not possible in the least.

India is situated in the tropical zone. Therefore the floors in the houses, offices and factories in this country are made of cement, marble tiles or ceramic tiles. In fact tiled floors are more appropriate in the ever-changing hot, cold and humid climates in the tropical countries like India. 

The residential houses in the countries situated in temperate zones are provided with carpeted and wooden floorings suitable for subzero temperature. The bathrooms in the US are also typically designed with separate shower-chambers and bathtubs, leaving the rest of the floor neat, clean and dry.

Nevertheless, most of the Indian bathrooms and restrooms are susceptible to spilling of water all over the main floor. In fact the Indian bathrooms are quite small with an area of more or less 6’x6’.  The main floor of the bathrooms is usually flooded with bathing water after each use.   Therefore, it is essential for the user to wipe the floor immediately after its use for keeping the bathrooms neat, clean and dry. 

The conventional way of keeping our bathrooms clean and dry is wiping the floor with the help of wipers. In spite of the above practice, the floor remains considerably wet that takes quite some time for drying up. In summers such bathrooms take at about half-an-hour to dry up, whereas, in rainy seasons drying up of bathrooms may even take 4 to 6 hours.

This problem can be solved by mopping the floor with the help of PVA Mops that are available in the market. These mops are made of super absorbent sponge that can absorb 12 times of its dried mass. We may mop our floors with the help of Super Absorbent PVA Mops after the floor is wiped with the help of a wiper. With this additional application of mop the floor of our bathrooms will dry up instantly and make it ready for reuse. 

What is PVA...?

PVA stands for Polyvinyl Alcohol. PVA is a synthetic sponge composed of Polyvinyl Alcohol. It possesses a 'three dimensional open cell structure' similar to that of the natural sea sponge. Its physical structure is that all of its cells are interconnected and not independent. 

PVA sponge is capable of absorbing water up to 12 times of its dry weight. Initially PVA is a hard substance but when saturated with water, it becomes flexible and soft like natural sea sponge. PVA exhibits mechanical strength and abrasion equal to or greater than any other synthetic sponge. Pore size and shape of PVA can vary to meet different specified applications. Wet PVA sponge will withstand temperatures upto 90 degrees C without any deformation of the PVA material.

Use Switch-Less 5 Amp Wall Sockets: Suitable For Cordless Telephones, Laptops, PSPs, Computers and Other Delicate Electronic Appliances…

 I had a bad experience with electric wall sockets when I used them for operating cordless telephones. I have been using cordless phones for almost last 12 years since the days this appliance entered the Indian markets. I usually had problems with the adapters that are used for specified power supply from the house wiring to the base units of cordless phones. These adapters are meant for converting 250 Volts electric supply to the specified input voltage of 6 Volts or 9 Volts, depending on the capacity of the particular base units or the charging cradles for cordless phones.

I had mainly two problems with the wall sockets at my home. The first one was the poor longevity of the adapters that used to breakdown within months. The second problem was the interference in the wireless reception as there was audio interference while talking on the phone.

I have recently experienced that these two problems were due to the switches provided with the wall sockets at which I used to connect the base units and chargers of the cordless phones. It is known to most of us that that whenever an electric switch is operated like putting it on or off a spark is generated at the time of each operation that results into many problems like sudden voltage upsurge and interference in radio frequencies. These are the two reasons that result in breakdown of adapters and disturbance in audio output that affect the quality of voice heard on the cordless phones.

Eventually I removed switches from all the 5 Amp wall sockets and connected the base unit of my cordless phone to one of the switch-less wall sockets. Now my new cordless phone is working fine with the new configuration, giving crystal clear audio output and prolonged life to the adapter.

Single Unit Electric Geyser (Electrical Water Storage Heater): Used in Indian Subcontinent and Asian Countries…

Wide range of ISI marked storage water heaters are manufactured in India and used by Indian consumers in their day-to-day life. ISI is a standardization mark allotted by The Bureau of Indian Standards for its quality, reliability and safety. 

In western world central heating system is used for heating water and supplying warm water to different parts of houses, factories and offices from a centralized water heating plant. On the other hand single unit of water heaters are installed in India for the same purpose because, expect in the Himalayan hilly areas, the temperature does not go below 0 degree Celsius and the duration of winters extends between 40days to 90days. 

Single unit water heater can be used on "as required"  basis for saving electricity and using it only at places and times where and when they are required. Rest of the water heating units can be kept put-off when they are not required.   

These water heater are available in many sizes and capacities like of 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 25, 35, 50 liters. High capacity units like 100 liters & above can be manufactured on special orders. Manufacturers / dealers offer these water heaters in various colors and models. 

Some of the features of single unit electrical water heaters are as follows: 
  1. Metal or Plastic outer body: Plastic / Fiber Glass body lasts longer whereas metal body has a shorter life as it perishes as a result of rusting and physical damages.
  2. Copper or Steel inner tank: In high rise building of 10 floors or more, the water pressure in lower floors is extremely high as compared to the water pressure in the top floors. Water heaters fitted with Copper tanks should be used where there is high water pressure. Metal tanks are suitable for normal water pressure and will develop cracks when water at high pressure is heated inside the tank
  3. Pressure Valves: In addition to Copper tanks the water heaters used under high water pressure should also be provided with additional safety device called ‘Pressure Valves’, obviously for reducing the water pressure before its entry inside the tank.  the
  4. Heating Element: Heating element is fitted inside the water tank and connected to power. The element gets heated when connected to electric power.
  5. Thermostat: Thermostat is fitted on water heater for controlling temperature of water at which it should be heated. The maximum temperature range provided on thermostat is 65 degree Celsius. We should make it sure that the maximum temperature of 55 degree Celsius should be adjusted at the time of installation. This temperature suits to the synthetic hose pipes and washers used in the valves and taps. At higher water temperature these components and other synthetic accessories in the pipeline will perish faster.

Why do Single Unit Electric Geysers blast: Deadly accidents my take place if proper care/precautions are not taken

Single unit electric geysers are widely used in India and in other Asian countries.  An introduction to this electric appliance has been given in another article titled “Single Unit Electric Geyser (Electrical Water Storage Heater): Used in Indian Subcontinent and Asian Countries". In continuation to this article I am going to discuss about possible deadly accident that might occur as a result of a blast in the storage tank.

Today there was a news headline in New Delhi newspapers about a blast in a geyser that resulted in serious injuries to inmates of a girls’ hostel in Modi Nagar, near New Delhi. Incidentally I too had experienced a similar accident when a geyser in my bathroom had burst with a loud blast. No one was injured because there was nobody in the bathroom at the time of the blast. All of my neighbors heard the loud sound of the blast and ran towards the spot suspecting a possible blast of a cooking gas cylinder. 

The 6’x 8’ bathroom has a window and an exhaust fan is fitted on its panel. At the time of the blast the doors of the bathroom were closed and the exhaust fan was in shut-off state. The geyser was in a switched-on state. When the blast took place the steam generated had such a high pressure that it shattered the geyser in many pieces. The small windowpane was pushed open and the exhaust fan fitted on the same also broke into pieces.  

Onlookers saw a blast of high pressure steam gushing out of the window. The false ceiling of the bathroom, made of asbestos sheet, was smashed with the blown up upper crown of the body of the geyser, making a 2’x1’ irregular hole in it. On opening the door we found the bathroom was filled with steam, so much so that nothing was visible inside the bathroom. 

Probable Reasons:

I think excessive generation of steam inside the geyser might be the reason for the blast. The water heater might have started malfunctioning and turned into a boiler before the high pressure steam blew it off. There might be the following reasons for the above malfunction:
  1. The thermostat might have broken down and stopped controlling the desired temperature
  2. The pressure valve might not have controlled the input water pressure in the high rise building
  3. The safety valve that is mounted on the geyser did not blow-off and released the pressure buildup inside the geyser. 
  4. The storage tank might not have the desired strength to withstand the high pressure built up in the water pipes in high-rise buildings 
  5. Precautions for evading blasts in geysers:
  6. It is better to replace the geyser after 5 years rather than going for repeated repairs
  7. Replace the geyser whenever the storage tank is required to be replaced
  8. The pressure valve should be checked periodically
  9. The safety valve / safety plug should be checked periodically and be replaced every 12 months
In high rise buildings the water pressure is excessively high in the lower floors. We should always remember that there are special geysers manufactured for high rise buildings with stronger storage tanks, duly fitted with pressure valves. As such, we should go for these special geysers if we live in high rise buildings.

Automobiles: What will happen if we press electric start button in running engine condition of a bike..?

What happens if we pressed an electric start button for a vehicle which is already started?
I pressed my bikes electric start button while riding my bike....!! does it harms bike??

Electric start system has an electric motor that turns the engine shaft at a rate of RPM (revolution per minute) sufficient for starting the engine of your bike. 

In fact electric start is a substitute to mechanical start feature known as 'Kick'...
If you push the electric start button / key in running engine... it will result in a condition similar to that you push the kick in the same condition...

Practically it will not harm the vehicle... nevertheless, it is not desirable and you should not do it intentionally...

The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru set targets for fast-track overall progress in India. The ‘5 year plan’ program, picked up from the erstwhile Soviet Union USSR, was the core policy, which the Indian government followed, planned and implemented all the long term huge projects. 

These projects included the public sector undertakings like Hindustan Machine Tools HMT, Bhilai Steel Plant and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd HAL etc and the huge dams like Hira Kud Dam, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Bhakra Nangal Dam etc, across the respective Indian rivers. Jawaharlal Nehru said that all these huge projects are the temples of modern India. They looked so because they were built for making the country self-sufficient, surging up employment opportunities, proving irrigation to the dry-land agricultural fields and reducing the occurrence of floods in the low-lying areas along the big rivers. 

Nehru’s dreams proved to be quite effective in the initial decades when the projects were under construction and under employment stages. The temples of modern India slowly turned into white elephants and the dams became burial grounds. India went into enormous amount of international debts; she borrowed from Russia and other countries. Moreover, the public sector undertakings could not achieve the target-efficiency and production output and eventually became sick Industries. Today, approximately 80% - 90% PSUs have become white elephants, and are surviving with unilateral financial aid from the Indian government treasury for salaries and maintenance of the PSUs. 


        The unheard cry of the people of India

The huge dams were basically constructed for hydropower generation, irrigation and controlling devastating floods in the catchment areas of the respective rivers. But as on today the 4000 plus huge dams of enormous size are no more the temples of modern India they, in fact, have turned into burial grounds for the people and properties of the people of  India.
  1.  We may list out the devastating effects of the 4000 odd huge dams constructed allover India:
  2. Hundreds of villages and dozens of towns have been submerged under the waters in the catchment areas of the dams.
  3. Huge areas of agricultural fields, natural forests and valleys have vanished under the waters of the large dams.    
  4. Thousands of people have been displaced from their ancestral homes leaving behind all their inherited properties.
  5. The waters have swallowed the footprints of ancient civilizations submerged along with the old settlements.
  6. The displaced people have been forcibly driven away in exchange of meager compensations inadequate for their resettlement. 
  7. Adequately developed lands suitable for human settlement have not been provided to the displaced people.
  8. The dams have not generated adequate hydropower as compared to the investment, submerging natural resources and properties for constructing them.
  9. India is still depending on the Thermal power as hydropower generation could not reach the demand. 
  10. The irrigation provided from the waters of dams could be considered quite adequate. 
  11. Nevertheless, rampant corruption is reported in providing canals to the agricultural fields. 
  12. Major portion of available irrigation water is captured by the wealthy farmers in exchange of bribes.
  13. The poor farmers are kept aside at the time of distribution of water and widespread protests by poor farmers are reported from the affected areas. 
  14. These huge dams become disastrous during rainy seasons because the dam management release huge amount of water that result into deadly floods in the low-lying areas at the banks of the rivers. 
  15. All the deadly floods reported in 2012 are the results of arbitrary release of huge amount of water from dams and not due to rains in the affected areas. 
  16. The height of the dams and the water levels in dams are highly controversial.
  17. Many dams on Narmada have stored excessive water due to the heights of the dams; resulting in higher water levels that eventually result is submerging excessive area beyond the specified catchment area. 
Following are the huge dams on Narmada River in central India: 
  1. Sardar Sarovar Dam
  2. Maheshwar Dam
  3. Maan Dam
  4. Indira Sagar Dam
  5. Bargi Dam
  6. Goi Dam
  7. Jobat Dam
Following are some of the huge dams out 400 plus dams in India:
  1. Bhakra Nangal Dam: across the Sutlej river Himachal Pradesh.
  2. Bhavanisagar Dam: across Bhavani river, Tamil Nadu.
  3. Bisalpur Dam: Bisalpur, located in Tonk District of Rajasthan.
  4. Cheruthoni Dam: in Kerala.
  5. Hirakud Dam: across the Mahanadi River Orissa.
  6. Indira Sagar Dam: built on the Narmada river in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
  7. Koyna Dam: across river koyana in Koyna Naga Maharashtra.
  8. Krishnarajasagar Dam: built across Kaveri River near Mysore in Karnataka.
  9. Maithon Dam: built on the river of Barakar, Jharkhand.
  10. Mettur Dam: across Kaveri River at Salem district in Tamil Nadu.
  11. Nagarjunasagar Dam: built across Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh.
  12. Rihand Dam: across Rihand River a tributary of Sone river, Uttar Pradesh
  13. Sardar Sarovar Dam: also known as “Narmada Dam” across Narmada River in Gujarat.
  14. Tehri Dam: on the Bhagirathi River, Uttarakhand.
  15. TungaBhadra Dam: across river Tungabhadra, Hospet town in Karnataka.
