Editor’s Page: Comments Of Anonymous Visitors to Discover Life Site Are Filtered to ‘Spam Folder’ By Security Software

Dear Visitors,

Yesterday morning I was just updating my site ‘Discover Life’; doing some editing, corrections and removing digital trash as a regular exercise. I also checked the comments section in the dash board just to see whether any comments have been held back by the security software of the site.

To my surprise I found that there were approximately 300 odd comments of anonymous visitors, out of the total 616, docked in the ‘Spam’ folder. On scrutinizing the blocked comments, I found that all those comments were genuine messages left by the visitors and not spams.

Now I have removed 'Spam' tags from all the blocked comments and started replying each comment one by one. I am working overtime for acknowledging and replying messages posted by all the 300 odd anonymous visitors to 'Discover Life' Site.

I would like to express my regrets for not regularly checking the ‘Spam’ folder in the ‘Comments’ section, as a result of which the valuable comments of the visitors were blocked on ‘Discover Life’ Site.

I request all my visitors to keep visiting ‘Discover Life’ site, more frequently and leave comments… as many as possible.

I assure the visitors that their comments will not be blocked any more.

Thanks indeed.

Poor Appetite of Youngsters in Modern Times

          Inactive life kills your appetite..

© Harish Jharia

In our modern way of living and the current intellectual ways of thinking has made us addicted to computers. We keep sitting at one place for hours together. We also indulge in the habits of chatting and dating with dozens of people on internet. We develop friendships with strangers that are unknown and unseen. Eventually we keep sticking to our chair, constantly gazing at the monitor and become inactive lazy and slow in our day-to-day activities.

For having a more healthy life, we should limit your idling time and increase active hours. We might better take-up as many household chores as possible from our mother and assist our father in various departments of our daily life. Do not remain to be guest or a paying-guest to your parents. Realize that it is your home and not a college hostel.

You should look like a youngster, a girl or a boy by your activities and by running around all the time… rather than crawling like a slow and lazy person.

If you keep yourself physically active, your body will release vital hormones required for your proper growth, health and luster of your skin, skin tone and adequate appetite for food, out of physical activities and cardiovascular exertions. For gaining optimum health, you need 30-40min exercise / walking / jogging daily regularly.

Do not put yourself on controlled diet unless you are obese. Take 3 to 4 times rich diets of normal Indian food is adequately rich for youngsters. Just add lots of salads, and fruits including seasonal fruits to your diet. Fruits and salads are necessary for your cosmetic health like skin tone, adequate moisture in your muscles and skin, healthy eyes and hair.

For enhancing your appetite, you may go for the regimes summarized as follows:
•    Do regular cardiovascular exercise daily in the morning
•    The best cardiovascular exercise is brisk running for 30 to 40 minutes
•    Getup at 6am well before you take your breakfast
•    Go to bed at 10pm for having a sound sleep of 8hrs
•    Spare time for going in balcony or lawn and breath fresh air
•    Spare time for chatting with family members or friends
•    Spare time for watching TV
•    Keep away from solitude and mix-up with people
•    Do not eat any thing within 1 hour before your meals
•    Do not drink water during eating food
•    Drink water 30 minutes after taking food
•    Eat lots of salads of fresh vegetables
•    Make it a habit to take fruits at least once a day

Ragging: A Black Blot on Indian Education

Ragging: A Black Blot on Indian Education Sector:

© Harish Jharia

In olden days, senior students of any college used to make the freshers comfortable by displaying welcome messages on banners right at the entrance of the college. Seniors especially those who were active members of the students unions use to open freshers’  assistance booths for helping them in filling up various forms, paying fees, getting hostel accommodation and even guiding them to for shopping for their basic requirements. Some of the senior students used to do all this for selfless service of the youngsters in need and the others did this for inflating their vote banks for students’ unions elections.

With the passage of time, the freshers were successively turned into easily identifiable individuals and for that, many ID systems have been introduced. The freshers now need to follow various codes as follows:

  • They should have crew-cut hairdo
  • They should shave-off mustache
  • They should wear full sleeved shirts
  • One of the front buttons of their shirts should be of a specified color- mostly ‘red’
  • They should wear normal trousers and not jeans
  • They should not make direct eye contact with seniors
  • They should recite a pre determined dialogue whenever they meet a senior

Once the new youngsters are eliminated from the crowd in the college, they simply turn into soft targets for everyone for exploitation in whatever way others like to. If you want them to do sit-ups holding their earlobes, you need not think twice. Simply call them in front of you and ask to do and they will definitely do that.

Freshers are forced to do that they do not like...

Youngsters lose their self-confidence and keep engrossed in a continued scare from anyone whoever comes across. I have seen some freshers addressing the peons of colleges with the prefix ‘Sir…! Some of them go in depression. There are reports of many youngsters committing suicide because of consistent rigorous ragging. It was reported in a section of press that a trainee just vanished from a ship when he joined marine training. There are reports of physical abuses from many parts of our country.

Whatever is described above is nothing but ‘ragging’ for which court had to intervene and issue a judgment for completely banning the inhuman practice of ragging in colleges, hostels or anywhere. Nevertheless, many incidents have been reported even after the courts directive.

We all were students. Many of us are still studying in colleges. Some of us might have been ragged and few who might have ragged. All of us know well that the students union is one of the most powerful bodies that can play a vital role in eradication ragging from the education sector.  In addition to them, the political parties to whom the unions are affiliated should also issue strict and unequivocal directives to various college branches, for stopping the practice of ragging. If the students unions enforce the law along with the college authorities and district administration then only we will be able to get rid of this shameful black blot on Indian education sector.

How to Overcome Sleep While Studying:

Go to “Yahoo Answers” for reading detailed discussion...

Unedited Question:

How to overcome sleep while reading I am 12th std?
I am studying 12th std, I start school at 8.30 and it will get over by 5 and ill reach home and have evening meal. then ill start studying @ 6.30,after 10 or 20 mins i feel so tired and feel sleepy, please find me some remedy for this

Answer by: Harish Jharia

You feel drowsy because you start studying after taking your meals... Taking evening meals at 6:30pm is too early... You will have to change this timing...

After returning from your school you should freshen up, take some light snacks and any beverages like tea, coffee, or neemboo-paani etc... Have chats with your family members for half an hour and then go for studying...

You shift your evening meals timing to 9pm... and go to bed at 10pm... In between you may revise your studies or do writing work...

How Do Clouds Turn Into Rain Water?

© Harish Jharia

How Do Clouds Turn Into Rain Water?

This was a question that kept resounding in my mind for many years in my school days. I asked every possible answerer and was not convinced with their answers.

Photobucket
Clouds at 10km altitude... about to freeze...

The answers that I received from people and the doubts that I had in my childhood days were something like that written as follows:

1. Answer: The clouds carry water from the seas to the land and rain when they are stopped by some mountain, hills or forests.

My doubts: If clouds carry water, they should be heavy. Then how could they go up in the sky and move around. Moreover, what happens with the clouds when mountains, hills or forests stop them and convert them into showers of water?

2. Answer: Clouds are filled up in the trees of forests and are not allowed to go ahead unless they rain.

My doubts: what happens with the clouds when they are filled up in the hoard of trees in the forest and convert them into showers of water?

3. Answer: Clouds are made of water vapor and they rain when they hit against mountains.

My doubts: what happens with the clouds made of water vapor when they hit against mountains for converting them into showers of water?

No one could convince me with an answer that could clear my doubts about the conversion of clouds into showers of water that is more popularly known as rains. We were also taught about the water-cycle that:

  1. The water of seas convert into water vapors and form clouds
  2. Clouds go around to the mountains and hills and convert into water that resulted in rains
  3. Rain water flow into rivers and eventually go back to the seas

In spite of having taught about water cycle I was not convinced as to “how the water vapor converts in to showers of water. I kept asking this question from many people including teachers and did not get a convincing answer.

We were also taught separately that the hill-stations have a colder weather. Hill stations along Himalayas get snowfall also in winters. There are hill stations in tropical regions like south India there also the temperature is lower than that in the other parts of the country. Nevertheless, these hill stations do not get snowfalls.

I connected this theory of low temperature on hills with the process of raining and was even not convinced with it because the hills and mountains are not everywhere on the land. Then how do the clouds rain in the areas of plain land, cities, and deserts where there are no mountains hills and forests.

I understood this theory convincingly only when I boarded a flight to a western country and observed the map on the onboard GPS system. I was flying at about 11km from the sea level and well above the clouds and the temperature was showing -70deg C.

There were gusts of winds at the speed of more than 100kmph when we got alerts about turbulence experienced by the aircraft and the pilots managing to maintain balance in the winds blowing in different directions.

This was the time when the unanswered question flashed in my mind that “How do the clouds convert into showers of water that are called rains?” and the answers that flashed in my mind were as follows:

  1. There is subzero temperature at higher altitudes if you go 5 to 10 km above sea level
  2. When the clouds go above this level they cool down and convert into grains of ice
  3. These grains of ice join together and make blocks of ice that fall towards the earth
  4. These ice blocks keep melting as they pass through the earth's atmosphere and eventually turn into water and fall on the earth as rains
  5. The ice blocks that do not melt completely even after crossing the earth's atmosphere, fall on the earth as pieces of ice that is called hail, hailstorm or shower of hailstone.

That is how, I got the answer of my question...

Recall our childhood days and Hindi nursery rhymes...

Compiled and interpreted by - Harish Jharia

Here is the English interpretation of the Hindi nursery rhyme...

Right within a piece of seed
Just below the crust of earth
There lied a baby plant
With his eyelids closed tight

Pouring drops called him wake
Sang the fairies of sunbeams
He woke up with his flickering eyes
And watched the world with popping eyes

Butterfly came and sparrow flied
The moment he opened his eyes
And swung him in a fresh cool breeze
Singing songs of love and rejoice

How to be confident while facing an interview board

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

I think we should be prepared in the following main fields for being confident in a personal interview for a job:
  1. Theoretical knowledge of your subject
  2. Practical / applied knowledge of your subject
  3. Basic information about the employers and their activities
  4. General awareness
  5. Knowledge on current affairs
  6. Mental preparedness
Theoretical Knowledge of Your Subject: We all have known well that for being confident in personal interviews we have to be well prepared in our subjects. Being prepared in your subjects does not mean scoring good marks in exams. You will have to be clear in basic concepts of the subject. Merely cramming the definitions and formulas and remembering dedicated answers to questions would not help you; because, you would find yourself caught unawares if the board members switch on to cross-questioning.

I would site a crude example of a virtual piece of interview for expressing myself yet more clearly:
  • If they ask you- what’s 10 divided by 2…?
  • You say- 10 divided by 2 is equal to 5.
  • They cross-question- what do you mean by dividing the number 10…? Is it cutting the number in pieces, as if you cut an apple in to 2 pieces with the help of a fruit knife?
  • (The board member diverts your attention from the real concept of division… they would give you a piece of paper and ask you to explain on paper if you can…)
  • You might make a circle for apple on the paper, cutting it along its centre and drawing another two resultant semicircles alongside.
  • (here you have divided a unit into two subunits)
  • You should rather draw 10 small circles for 10 apples on the paper and then divide the bunch into 2 equal bunches of 5 each… for explaining 10 divided by 2.
Practical / Applied Knowledge of Your Subject: In practical questions, also your bookish knowledge is not going to help you. Because there would be, yet more cross-questions for evaluating your expertise in your applied knowledge.
Take an example of the term ‘center of gravity’; the board members may ask about it, applied on different and diverse applications. They may put forward its application from designing motor vehicles to the action of lifting a weight by humans.
  • They might ask- what is the role of ‘centre of gravity’ played while designing the ‘ground clearance’ of motor vehicles.
  • Here you have to be proficient in explaining as to what is the relation between ‘centre of gravity’ and ‘ground clearance’ and their resultant effect on the ‘stability’ of the vehicle while moving straight and turning side-wards or turning around.
Basic Information about the Employers and Their Activities: The most repeatedly asked FAQ in personal interviews are-
  • Why do you want to join this organization?
  • How do you think yourself fit for a job with this organization?
  • Tell us something about you… whatever
By asking these questions, they want to know whether you have detailed information about the employer, their activities, quality standards etc and your suitability for a job with them. Moreover, how much you would be able to contribute to their production / output, profits and reputation in the market.

General Awareness: The latest trend in conducting personal interviews in the job market is the diversified field of ‘general awareness’. The questions asked in this field are from a different field than that of yours. These questions are usually connected to your day-to-day life. The questions might be something like the following:
  1. Why are there separate electric circuits of house wiring like power line and 5amps line?
  2. What’s the difference between Watts and Volts?
  3. What’s the basic difference between Virus and Bacteria?
  4. Why are there 3 / 4 / 5 gears in motor bikes / vehicles; and can we do away with them?
Knowledge on Current Affairs: I think I do not need to write about it. Every one of you knows well about it.

Mental Preparedness: Your confident presentation, your posture, speech, diction, responses, gestures and basic cool depends on your mental preparedness. You need not go for any meditation classes or psychotherapy for this. You should rather learn various correct actions in these departments.

In all I would say- “You must know as to what exactly you are supposed to do.” Just read the following:
  1. You should look confident; neither overconfident nor subdued
  2. You should have a cheering face; neither ear-to-ear smiling nor gloomy
  3. You should make eye contact with asking member: neither looking aggressively into his eyes nor through corners of your eyes
  4. Your voice should be confident and loud enough for the member to hear
  5. Address the member with ‘Sir”; and not ‘gentleman’ while speaking
  6. Never start your sentence with ‘well’ or ‘OK’
  7. While speaking, take your own time; don’t make haste to finish your sentence; break your sentence in 2-3 pieces and use your own casual and usual pronunciation and accent (you should know the difference between ‘Pronunciation’ and ‘Accent’)
  8. Don’t use slang trying to be funny and speak ‘Hinglish’ words like funda, psycho, etc
  9. Keep making controlled and decent gestures with your hands, head and face expressions
  10. Listen carefully the question asked by the member; never hesitate to ask it again if you miss any piece of his speech and don’t understand him
  11. Never try to outsmart or outclass the board members and try to dominate the board
