It’s fine you don’t want preaching from your father any more; but, don’t preach your father either.

I'm not a baby

Men’s Health and Cosmetic Look: Excess Growth of Hair on Eyebrows, Ear and nostrils Especially on Senior Citizens

                                   Nasal hair

 © Harish Jharia

Men grow hair in their nostrils and on their external ears, in addition to their facial hair. Their mustaches and beard start growing at their puberty; whereas their ear and nostrils grow hairs in their late thirties. Nasal and external ear hairs result in ugly facial look in man rather than serving any practical utility.

These hairs grow more in the case of senior citizens. I have seen many elderly people, including some celebrities, sporting outwardly shooting ear-hair with pride. Many elderly people move around carelessly with nasal hair protruding out of their nostrils. But in general these hairs are not considered good for facial looks of men and most of the people get rid of them by one way or the other.

                    Hair on external ear

There are following three type of ugly facial hair found in men especially in their later age:
  1. Excess growth of hair on eyebrows: Additional thicker, harder and longer hair use to sprout out on the eyebrows of men in their late thirties. These hairs grow more in their post fifty ages when men reach their senior citizen stage. These hairs give scary look and should be trimmed regularly.
  2. Excess growth of hair in nostrils: Additional thicker, harder and longer hair use to sprout out of the nostrils of men in their late thirties. These hairs grow more in their post fifty ages when men reach their senior citizen stage. These hairs give filthy and scary look and should be trimmed regularly. Nasal hair also affect the day-to-day life of men as the sufferers feel itching sensation when the thick bunches of hair touch the inner sensitive surface of nostrils. They also sneeze when the pointed ends of thick and hard hairs pinch the walls of nostrils. Such people usually develop habits of touching their noses frequently and sometimes insert fingers in nostrils.
  3. Excess growth of hair on external ears: Additional use to grow out on the external ears of men in their late thirties. These hairs grow more in their post fifty ages when men reach their senior citizen stage. These hairs give ugly look and should be trimmed regularly.
1.5 volt AA battery operated Hair Trimmer

These hairs can be trimmed with the help of small scissors or you can rather go for electric trimmers available in the market. Almost all of these trimmers work on 1.5 volt AA batteries. They are handy and can be operated singlehandedly, easily and safely. With the help of these trimmers, you can completely cutoff hair from your nostrils and from the external ears. The hair sprouted out from your eyebrows will have to be trimmed and brought to the length of the normal hair of the eyebrows.

This grooming exercise will have to be performed at least twice a month regularly.

Crazy Ideas: Indian Bathrooms the Common Deathtrap for Senior Citizens

Colorful bathroom floors may turn fatal if we skid over them...

© Harish Jharia

In western countries the bathrooms in the residences are mostly dry-floored and some are even carpeted whereas in India and in other countries in the Indian subcontinent the houses are wet-floored.

That means the water released from showers or after bucket-baths, eventually flows over the main floor of the bathrooms leaving it totally drenched, wet and slippery. Resultantly, the floor that is made of smooth tiles becomes highly skidding and dangerous for aged people.

There are reports about senior citizens skidding in the bathroom floors and succumbing to the injuries. They, fracture their bones, inflict head injuries and in some cases die of cardiac arrests.

They slip or skid whenever they use the bathroom with barefoot. Nevertheless, such slippages or skidding can be easily avoided if they wear slippers or ‘chappals’ with rubber-sole,  because, rubber-soles will provide strong grip to the feet of the user on the slippery floor.

However, these slippers should be well designed for fitting with the contours of the soles of the user's feet especially the toes, heels and the arches.  The feet of the users hold the entire weight of the users' bodies. It becomes more risky when the user has a heavy body of 70-80 kg or more. The user would skid if he loses balance of his / her body and does not have proper footwear with strong grip on the floor. Once the body starts falling it keeps falling on the slippery floor and and the entire incident happens within a fraction of a second.

Therefore it is essential for the bathroom users especially the elderly people to keep wearing slippers with rubber-soles as long as they are in the bathrooms.

Here is a suitable design of slippers / Chappals for the senior citizens:

Anna Hazare’s Struggle for Lokpal: Should the Gram Sabhas Be Made More Powerful than the Lok Sabha?

© Harish Jharia

I am an ardent supporter of Anna Hazare’s struggle against corruption and black money. I also support wholeheartedly the countrywide movement for establishing the Lokpal authority for keeping vigilant eye on the people in the legislature, bureaucracy and the judiciary in order to control corruption in all the levels of governance. I am also of the opinion that the voters should have rights to recall the elected representative if he / she do not discharge duties allotted to him / her or earns disproportionate wealth out of corrupt practices and bribes. I support Anna Hazare’s proposal of including an additional option on the ballot papers for the voters to ‘vote for none’ amongst the candidates enlisted on the ballot papers.

In spite of my unconditional support to Anna Hazare’s movements I have certain doubts about his demands in respect of the ‘Gram Sabha’. These doubts have become even more complicated when I came to know that he has declared to go for an equally strong movement for seeking substantially more powers for the gram sabha as compared to the ‘Lok Sabha’.

He has also demanded a ‘Referendum Commission’ on the lines of the election commission.

Let us discuss about the constitutional powers proposed by Anna Hazare for the gram sabha vis-à-vis the Lok Sabha.  We all know about the Lok Sabha; its position and powers in order to run the governments in the country. Nevertheless, we do not know much about the gram sabha that has been proposed to be made much more powerful than the Lok Sabha.

The general body meeting of gram sabha in progress

Gram Sabha:

I did not know anything about this body called ‘Gram Sabha’ until Anna Hazare mentioned its name repeatedly during his Lokpal Bill movement. I would like to share the information that I could extract from various sites and what all I could understand about the Gram Sabha. Let me enlist the information point wise as follows:
  1. There are Gram Panchayats constituted out of elected representatives of any village. These are the ‘Governing Bodies’ of the villages’ self-governing bodies that look after implementation of plans and other policies of the state government and the central government.
  2. The Gram Sabha is constituted out of the voters of that village who elect the Panchayat representatives for forming the Gram Panchayat body.
  3. Gram Sabha can be termed as the ‘General Body’ of the village panchayat. Meetings of the gram sabha general body are assembled at regular intervals and the jobs done by the gram panchayat and money spent by them are reviewed and evaluated.
  4. There might be some special powers privileges of the gram sabha for sanctioning of funds, approval of budget and other administrative decisions that are disposed-off in these general body meetings.
In view of the above it is evident that gram sabhas are exclusively meant for the affairs of the specific villages and they have no jurisdiction beyond the territories of the village panchayats. As such how the powers of the gram sabhas can be compared with that of the Lok Sabha. This comparison is just irrelevant and I do not believe that Anna Hazare might have said like that.

Land Acquisition:

Anna Hazare might have mentioned about implemented of land acquisition drives conducted by the state governments or the union government without the consent of the relevant gram panchayat or the owners of the agricultural land.

He might have demanded the right of consent for the gram sabha in case of any land acquisition is implemented in their villages by the governments. He might have said that in case of acquisition of the rural land of the villages the gram sabhas should have the right and powers of accepting or rejecting the proposal for acquisition of village land, either private or public, for the implementation of development projects launched by the state governments or the union government.

He might have said that for land acquisition the gram sabha should have the powers to release the village land for implementation of the projects sanctioned by the central government. That does not mean that Anna Hazare is demanding more powers for Gram Sabha than that of the Lok Sabha.

How the ‘Indian Joint Family’ System Emerged and Eventually Broke Down: A Different Perspective

 Pindari Horseman: Courtesy Wikipedia Website

© Harish Jharia

Somewhere between 17th and 18th century the joint family system predominantly became a part of the Indian family life. It flourished even in the 19th century and continued for decades even after independence of India from the British rule.

I think the institution of joint family might have established for the first time, out of compulsion of security and safety of the frequently migrating families from one kingdom to the other. Such frequent migrations were taking place during the continued wars between native rajas, Muslim invaders, and the British forces after the downfall of Mughals.

Huge crowds of people had to migrate from the invaded areas to the nearest safe places. Or else, continued staying back depending on their militant capabilities, strength and wealth to defend them and safeguarding the chastity of their women folk.  These states of uncertainty and insecurity in public life forced the members of the affected families to keep themselves integrated together. Bigger families with a dozen plus members were considered much safer than the smaller families of 2 or 3 members.

The crowds of migrating families were attacked by dacoits and other professional looters like Pindaries. Pindaries were believed to have been engaged by native kings for supplying food, other requirements and logistics to their armies; whereas, their main profession was looting travelers, their homes and even whole villages that were not protected by any kingdom.  They were believed to have indirect protection from the native rulers and were suspected of sharing booties of loots with some small rulers, Malguzars and Jagirdars.

There was almost no social security, in those days, because of unchecked plundering and looting of families and homes. Resultantly, people used to construct big houses enclosed from all the sides with a courtyard in the center and rooms around it. Each couple of parents had 5 to 12 children and members of three to four generations used to live together in a house. Most of the houses used to have members as many as 20 to 40. The adult males were well trained in martial arts and fighting with all sorts of weapons including firearms in order to combat with looters, dacoits and other invaders.

The fear of insecurity was at its climax until the permanent establishment of the British Raj. The law and order situation improved when the British government imposed strict laws and enforced them forcefully. Around the end of 1816, Lord Hastings was assigned the task by the British Empire to exterminate and eliminate the professional looters Pindaris. As per the details available on Wikipedia Website, a huge army of more than 120,000 men and 300 artillery cannons was deputed under his command.

Hastings fought the Pindari war for a year from January 1818 until the beginning of 1819. It is reported that at the end of the Pindari War, the Pindari chiefs surrendered to the British forces and their activities of theft, looting and plundering were completely stopped.

The system of joint family continued to survive even after Indian independence until around Nineteen Fifties to Nineteen Seventies. The main reason behind the continuance was inadequate social securities in the rural areas where the law enforcement regime of the Indian government was ineffective. The Malguzars, Jagirdars, small kings like Rao Sahebs and Ex Maharajas were running their proxy governments and the Indian police forces had no direct control over these royal and semi-royal families.

Nevertheless, the joint family system started breaking down in the urban areas where there was no control of these ex royals and the social security was much better. We wrongly thought that the mentality and attitude of the new generation had changed and the love, affection and compassion in the youngsters had vanished. Nevertheless the reason was different. It was the requirement of the day for the youngsters to venture out for earning their livelihood. At the same time there was no compulsion of being together all the time to fight with any intruder.

In olden days, we followed the system of joint families because of the requirement at that time. Today, we have developed the new system of satellite families and a nucleus family with the parents keeping themselves equally attached to their youngsters. Nevertheless, we will have to be extremely careful against any chances of our parents landing in Old Age Homes.

Crazy Ideas: How to Identify Cosmetics, Without Glasses, While Taking Shower

Photo clicked on Nokia N8, 12 MPix Mobile

People with glasses usually do not have problems in their day-to-day chores and activities as long as they keep their glasses on. But we have to remove our glasses in our bathrooms while taking bath, especially when we shampoo our hair and apply conditioner.

Conditioners and shampoos usually have identical tubes and are hard to be identified without spectacles. If you use glasses and are not able to differentiate between shampoo and conditioner, then just write ‘S’ for Shampoo and ‘C’ for Conditioner, on the tube, in  big bold letters with the help of a permanent marker pen.

Have a look at the big bold ‘S’ and ‘C’ in the illustration that can be easily resolved without glasses.

Senior Citizens: Old Age Bone Disorder ‘Postmenopausal Osteoporosis’

© Harish Jharia

Postmenopausal Osteoporosis is a bone disorder that develops in women after 50 years of their age when they enter in menopause. This disorder drastically reduces bone-mass in women in their fifties and above, rendering them vulnerable to fractures even with minor injuries.

In addition to the women in their advanced age, this bone disorder (Osteoporosis) may affect others also irrespective to their age and gender. Therefore, the symptoms of this disease, its treatment and precautionary measures would be same.

Many women and men develop hunchback and hump on their backs in advanced ages due to this ailment. Fractures also occur due to osteoporosis at hip joints, ankle joints, knee joints, elbow joints and wrist joints or at any other joint or portion of bones that is subjected to injuries.

                           Porous material

The term ‘Osteoporosis’ has emerged out of the word ‘porous’ that describes any material or body that, unlike solids, contains pores and may allow infiltration of liquids or air across itself. By turning porous, human bones also lose their density, strength and elasticity and eventually become weak and brittle. The porous, brittle and thinned bones become susceptible to cracks and breakage even with minor injuries or accidents.

The process of weakening of bones occurs silently and progressively. In almost all the cases, no symptoms are notices until the first fracture is inflicted. Therefore, the policy of running for a fire-extinguisher after noticing a fire, would not suit for human beings. There are many precautionary medications that can effectively stop deterioration in human bones.

Women after the age of 45 and above are required to be regularly examined by doctors. They should take nutritious diet rich in proteins, minerals and calcium.  Their bone health requirements should be met with calcium supplements as advised by their doctors. Doctors usually prescribe daily intake of 800 mg of Calcium, vitamin D and Folic acid for women in their advanced age.

In addition to intake of supplements, women should also do regular exercise or workout and keep their muscles tuned-up that will support the weak bones.

There are medicines for women identified as Osteoporosis patients for treatment of this disorder. Following is one of the latest medicines that is prescribed for the patients of Osteoporosis by doctors:
  • Name of medicine: Fosavance***, 70mg / 5600IU
  • Salt: Alendronate Sodium Trihydrate 70mg and Colecalciferol 5600IU
  • Manufacturers: Merck Sharp & Dohme, Australia; Merck & Co, Inc., USA
  • Classification: Schedule H drug, to be administered only on prescription of a Doctor
*** To be administered under supervision of a Doctor

Senior Citizens: Age Is a Crucial Factor That Affects Human Life The Most

11.11.11; Ashburn, Virginia, USA

© Harish Jharia

Today is 11.11.11, a magic figure that will repeat again only in the year 2111 that is exactly after 100 years from now. 100 year period is quite a huge era that covers nearly 4 to 5 generations and a life span that very few human beings survive.  There might be many people surviving 100 years of age in the world, nevertheless, I have not seen or heard about any such centurion or super-centurion in my life.

As far as I know, very few people can survive beyond the age of 90 in India, as this is an age far more than the average longevity. The life expectancy or the average longevity of Indians, as evolved out of the statistics collected in the year 2000 census was about 60 to 61 years.  However, this is a statistical figure and is not applicable directly and individually to us and to the people around us.

We all know that life expectancy in rural India is quite low because the people out there have to live harder lives under rampant poverty, starvation and have hardly any medical facilities in their villages. Whereas, the average longevity of the people in urban India is better because they are well off, as far as nutrition for their health and medical facilities for protecting their lives is concerned.

Whatever might be the average life expectancy, the fact of life remains that death is inevitable and so are the stages of our lives that is childhood, youth and old age.

Age plays peculiar role in our lives and is looked at by us with different angles of view in different stages of our lives.  When we were small children we wanted to become big like our parents. Boys wanted to shave their beards whereas the girls always longed to grow up and wear makeup and contemporary outfits.  We used to feel offended when we were treated as babies and addressed as kids. We used to claim that we were big and not babies anymore.

Nevertheless, the desire for growing bigger diminishes successively, on reaching our thirties when we miss the freedom and carefree lives of our childhood. We also miss the love, care and compassion of our parents as we grow older and older. We develop instinctive hesitation in declaring our real age and the growing age prompts us to light one single candle on our birthday cakes, thereafter.

The cycling and recycling of the visualization of our age keeps changing until we grow real old. Our status changed from offspring to siblings. Then we graduated from being siblings to parents. The final status we have acquired now is of grandparents after having superannuated of our day-to-day liabilities.

After crossing the age of 60 the same feeling of our childhood reappears when we do not want to be called as small. We would like to declare ourselves as a bit much older than our real age. Eventually, the cycle of visualization of our age completes and we are recognized as senior citizens

Mothers’ Day vis-à-vis Valentines’ Day

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

There are many globally accepted celebrating days that are considered no less than any festivals. Mothers’ day and valentines day are the two most important and widely celebrated days across the world. Internet usually gets flooded with messages and various featured contents and articles relating to these festive Days are published. Flower vendors, greeting card shops, jewelry outlets, malls and gift shops do roaring business on these Days to the tune of billions across the globe.

Both of these Days are so very popular because they are directly connected to human emotions of the masses. There is a huge crowd of people who celebrate valentines’ day in spite of the fact that they just do not know the meaning of valentine. Yet, they try to find-out someone to present a red rose.  They approach to their roommates, classmates, friends, family members and also to their parents for wishing a happy valentines’ day.

Valentines’ day stands for the feeling of romance where as mothers’ day signifies compassion and care. My aim for writing this article is to compare the quantum of celebration between “Valentines’ Day” and “Mothers’ Day”. If we look around us we will find that both these Days are the most popular festive days; yet, valentines’ day scores by double the festivities over mothers’ day. There is apparently an upper hand of romance over compassion.

If fact our thinking pattern has drastically changed. Most of us think that the life is a cup of coffee. Enjoy it as long as it is hot. Our thinking process has so very narrowed down that that we just see and visualize whatever is visible right in front of our eyes. We forget that there is an entire world if you turn your eyeballs to the corners of your eyes. There is a world beyond the frontiers of our thoughts if we turn our head around.

On internet we just search out for a chat box and spot out some stranger online and go ahead with exchanging wishful thoughts, eventually landing ourselves in a dream world of passive romance. We even do not know whether the person on the other end of the line is a male or a female or is a school kid, youngster or older than our parents. It is just a sort of deceiving ourselves by creating a mirage and imagining ourselves in a comfortable situation. We feel so very happy in this solitude that we cut ourselves off from our family members, friends and other entities in the real life. We get used to live in an imaginary world.

Films, TV serials, novels and stories featured and published in the media are mainly based on some or the other romantic themes. It appears that there is nothing except romance in the world and in our lives. I have rarely seen any such media production or publication with a central theme of relations with father or mother. There might be rarest of the rare films like “The old man and the sea”.

There was a report in a section of press that a young girl of a billionaire setout on an adventurous married life with a common man who did not even earn a living for surviving alone in this corporate world. That girl happens to be the daughter of a film star who portrayed such adventurous characters glorifying romantic relations between the rich and the paupers. The climax of this romantic story was far different than those portrayed in the films by the actor father as he publicly condemned that romantic alliance and went to the extent of disowning his daughter.

We keep searching around for peace of mind in yoga classes and meditation centers. There are many ‘babas’, gurus, and god men running ashrams and conducting discourses in gatherings of thousand who participate in such events by paying donations in thousands. Yet we just forget that the peace of mind is right there at our home in the feather touch of mother, in the warm hug of father and in the environment of the greatest institution in the world the family. Be with your family. Mix-up with the family members, talk to them and share your worries and cheers with them.

My purpose of writing this article is not to discourage you from celebrating valentines' day. I have just tried to encourage the readers to celebrate mothers’ day in much more festivities than we do today.

Senior Citizens... Old age, Menopause: Mothers and mothers-in-law

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

Mother-in-law is an entity that is projected in negative characters in films, soap operas on TV and in general discussions. Internet forums are flooded with questions asking ways for getting rid of mothers-in-law. You will find this trend in the audiovisual media in western world as well as in the eastern showbiz also. In homes daughters-in-law feel their lives interfered by the old ladies and sons-in-law feel their lives intruded with the presence of their mothers-in-law.

School students usually dislike their old lady headmaster and children very often have altercations with their grandmothers on various day-to-day life incidents like grabbing the remote control while watching TV. It is a common belief among youngsters that there is a wide generation gab between them and their aging mothers.

We just ignore these widening rifts between younger generation and the aging women in our families and societies. Nevertheless, this is a matter of serious concern that younger kids keep clinging to their mothers, whereas, on entering their adulthood their attachment with their mothers reduces to the minimal. As the offspring grow older they successively establish a wider generation gap with their mothers whom they loved the most all along their early lives.

On analyzing the above described examples it is apparently clear that the common factor in all these cases is ‘ the old women in their fifty plus age’.

Most of us do not know that women are bound to undergo overall physical and mental changes due to drastic hormonal disturbances at the age of around fifty. These age related problems eventually result in many sicknesses and these physical and psychological ailments are so very personal that aging women cannot share or discuss them with others.

Usually at fifty plus age all the women have to face the most painful period of their life called ‘Menopause’. Menopause can be better understood if we compare it with puberty. Girls enter the most awaited period of their life called puberty that eventually introduces them to the divine age of early womanhood. Similarly women enter the age of menopause, just opposite to puberty that eventually bids farewell to their motherhood.

Following is the list the common problems that women face at fifty plus age:

1. Hot flashes, flushes
2. Cold flashes
3. Night sweats
4. Irregular periods and menstrual irregularities
5. Mood swings
6. Sudden tears
7. Fatigue
8. Hair loss and thinning of hair
10. Growth in facial hair
11. Sleep disorders
12. Difficulty in concentrating, disorientation and mental confusion
13. Disturbing memory lapses
14. Dizziness and loss of balance
15. Weight gain
16. Allergies
18. Bouts of rapid heart beat
19. Depression and Anxiety
21. Irritability
22. Panic and feelings of dread
25. Breast pain
26. Headaches
27. Aching muscles and tendons
28. Sore joints
29. Burning sensation in tongue and roof of mouth
32. Electric shock sensation under the skin and in the head
33. Digestive problems, indigestion, flatulence
34. Gum problems, increased bleeding

For detailed description of the above problems and ailments please visit... "34 Menopause Symptoms... " webpage.

You may also visit "Girls and Puberty"... webpage and compare menopausal changes with the changes taken place during puberty.

I have not published this article to study puberty and menopause that are the most important turning points in women’s lives. My aim of writing this article is to remind the readers that the small baby girl who brings dazzling glow in the family will have to eventually grow-up into an old woman and face all the catastrophes of old age.

We have learnt about all the hardships, pains and frustrations faced by mothers and grandmothers in their old age. Now let us jot-down the precautions and remedial measures we need to take for taking care of our mothers, mothers-in-law and grandmothers.

Following are the probable ways and means to make our mothers and grandmothers more comfortable:

1. Men and women in their old age turn into small children and are required to be taken care of with love, care and compassion.
2. With the advancement in their age they become more and more touchy. They would be hurt with a negligible emotional injury. We will have to be careful while interacting or dealing with them.
3. They might develop urge for eating and drinking tasty stuff. We need to offer them these foods and drinks, rather then asking for their choice
4. They might lose their temper for any unexpected reason. We should learn to tolerate their emotional and temperamental outbursts.
5. They may develop rigid concepts that might not look reasonable. We should either learn to tolerate all that or should be expert enough to motivate them to voluntarily change their thinking pattern.
6. They might remind us about our day-to-day routine jobs, in spite of the fact that we are grown up and know our jobs well. Yet, it would be a 'feel good factor' for them, if we acknowledge their reminders and flash a sweet thankful smile in return
7. They might feel lonely because of the busy schedule of other family members. We need to spare time for sitting with them and exchange some pleasantries.
8. It would be a good idea to provide them exclusive rooms equipped with all the facilities that other family members avail like TV, air-conditioner or cooler etc.
9. We should make it sure that they take breakfast lunch and dinner along with other family members together
10. We should not leave them alone at home whenever we go for an outing like, long drives, picnics, movies etc

We have plenty of time to enjoy for your personal pleasure. Yet, we should never forget that whatever we are enjoying today that has been created by our mom and dad in exchange of losing on their own desires and dreams.

Dedicated to mothers on the occasion of May 9th, Mothers' Day 2010.

Break Monotony in Daily Life and Keep Away Stress, Anxiety and Depression

Photobucket

© Harish Jharia

With the advent of modern ways of life, our bodies have become inactive and we have confined ourselves within the fore-walls of our homes imposing on us a sort of solitary confinement in the name of luxury. We do not know anything about our next door neighbor  and even keep being ignorant about the whereabouts of our family members. We live lonely lives and claim to enjoy our solitude.  We install indoor gym gadgets and do workout on them rather than venturing out for a jog and exercise in fresh air in the open natural environment.

We close our windows and doors of our house and put-on electric lights to maintain visibility, rather than using the natural light bestowed upon us in abundance by the Mother Nature. . We stop cross ventilation, inhale stagnated air and create an unhealthy artificial environment in our homes, in stead of letting the fresh breeze enter our abode and induce new lives in our bodies. We mostly try to find a place to sit down wherever we go. If we stand we try to rest our shoulder against a wall. We don’t do our personal chores ourselves and wait for someone else to arrive and do those jobs for us.

In all, the lives of the masses in the upper-middle class bracket and in the higher status are stale, inactive and dull. Majority of people are over-weight and have many acquired diseases like diabetes , hypertension, heart diseases, etc. In spite of all the facilities and nutritious food, the life expectancy in modern times is declining. As a result of that, star hospitals that are mushroomed all around and engaged in surgeries like Angioplasty, Bypass surgery and other open-heart surgeries with a long queue in waiting are minting money. These hospitals are doing roaring business and there are more medical stores in our towns and cities as compare to the number of fruit juice shops in the market.

Now, here is the time when you should break the monotony in your lives and take yourselves out on a move. Do not sit idle; leave your resting place and venture out for taking yourself in natural surroundings.  The best way is to wakeup at 6am in the morning and go to a nearby jogging park and take a brisk walk or jog of two and a half kilometers. In addition to that, do some stretching exercises for making your body a bit more flexible.

By doing so, you will break the monotony  of your indoor life that you unknowingly impose upon yourself. You come out of your solitary confinement from your house and live in open air and natural environment for an hour or so. You inhale fresh air and feel the pleasure of the pleasant views of sun rise and the successive changing colors of the flora and fauna around you with the rising sun. You will have to venture out of your house leaving behind your bed and the monotonous inactive life.

It would be a good idea to know about the people next door. It is believed that when we meet different people we undergo a psychological exercise by introducing ourselves to the different ways of life lived by different people.  We usually think that we are the only ones who are passing through the struggles and diversities of human life . By meeting others, we would find that not only us even each one in the world is encountering the adversities of life.

It is a natural instinctive belief that “we have bigger brains while the wallets of others are heavier”.  We need to understand the fact that human life is not a cake walk. Human life is full of struggles and problems that have to be faced and resolved all by ourselves. No one is going to rush for our rescue.  We need to keep cool for making ourselves prepared for the struggle because the moment we lose our cool, we also lose our mental and physical strength in the same proportion.

Pugilists  are usually instructed to keep their cool intact in the ring, lest the boxer might lose the bout. Human life is no less complex than a boxing bout; where a wink of our eye would provide a chance to the opponent to hit a punch right on our jaw.  A boxer is required to be well aware of the game strategy and psychological attitude of his opponent. He also needs to keep an eye on their location on the ring in order to decide his own strategy to fight the bout to win.

In the same way we also need to be well aware about the people around us and their nature, attitude and social environment out there. By doing so we develop self confidence and courage for keeping ourselves well prepared for facing any adversities  and eventualities in our life. Breaking the monotony of our daily life by doing these exercises will give piece of mind, reduce our stress level and the fear for unknown threats in our mind will vanish.

Crazy Ideas: Glaucoma patients... Beware of Yoga:

ACCESSORIES

Glaucoma patients: Beware of Yoga...

In yoga there is an aasana ‘sheershaasan’ (head stand). It is believed that doing this yoga exercise at 50+ age, might affect adversely on your eye pressure (intraocular pressure).

If the intraocular pressure shoots-up beyond permissible limits you might get Glaucoma that can lead to blindness. Because high eye-pressure will damage the optic nerve and will end up in a blind eye.

People at the age of 50 and above are advised to be careful about their eyes and get their eye-test done on regular basis.

We and our parents:

Photobucket

Analytical Article:

I have not seen God. I have a remote perception about His entity. Nevertheless; I have seen my parents for my entire early life. Now they are no more. I have their photographs and videos. I use to watch all those imagery and console myself and ask myself to feel their presence out of the memories left behind by them.

Their larger than life persona; their influence on my physical and intellectual entity; in fact, on my very existence; what I speak, what I write, how I look have direct links to my parents. Their images flash in my mind whenever anyone notices all that in me and recognizes me in the crowd as a descendant of them.

At such times I do recollect the images and profiles of my mom and dad. I feel indebted to the intellect of my dad and the compassion of my mom, parts of which I have inherited.

I even remember mom’s scolding and dad’s slaps across my face and the mistakes and the blunders I committed. I do remember with regrets the fact that, in those days I did not accept my shortcomings for which they used to take extreme steps.

I also remember my dad sitting all alone in his chair holding his head within his palms, in his study after awarding me a punishment. I cannot forget the relentless flow of tears rolling down the cheeks of my mom following her outbursts on me.

I love every thing of my parents to the core of my heart.  Yet, I only repent that I should have had this feeling when they were alive in flesh and blood and were moving around.
