Evergreen Indian film star Dev Anand, passed away, at the age of 88, on Sunday the 4th December 2011 after a massive cardiac arrest in London. He is survived by his wife former film star Kalpana Kartik, one son Sunil, a daughter Devina, and a grand-daughter Jeena.
He was born on September 26, 1922, in Gurdaspur. His father was a lawyer and mother a housewife. He was one of the nine children in his family.
Dev Anand is the real example of ideal male beauty. Men of all ages are still compared with Dev Anand while estimating the lavel of attraction in them like features, profiles, figure, body language and style. His typical hair style became a brand and was copied by millions of his admirers and still continues to be a contemporary style.
Dev Anand got his first break with 'Hum Ek Hain' in 1946. However, his first hit was 'Ziddi' in 1948. His other famous films are 'Baazi', 'Guide', 'Jewel Thief', 'Johnny Mera Naam', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna', 'CID' and 'Tere Mere Sapne'.
His last film produced, directed and acted was 'Charge-sheet' that didn’t do well at the box office. Dev Anand always said that box office does not determine success or failure for him. He made films because he enjoyed doing so.
He used to say… “I don't chase life, life chases me”
