The most respected and renowned Classical Khayal singer Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi Passes away today on 24 January 2011:


Pt Bhimsen Joshi, the highly respected and renowned classical vocalist has passed away at the age of 89 at Pune's Sahyandri Hospital after a prolonged illness. Pt Joshi was admitted to the hospital on 31 December 2010 following renal (kidney related) and respiratory complications. He is survived by his three sons and a daughter.

“Discover Life” expresses deep sorrow on the sad demise of Pt Bhimsen Joshi and prays the almighty god to rest his soul in peace. 


He was honored with India’s highest civilian awards like Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Maharashtra Bhushan, Karnataka Ratna and Bharat Ratna. 
In addition to his classical performances and albums, Bhimsen Joshi sang for many films - like Basant Bahar, Birbal My Brother, Tansen and Ankahee. He mesmerized common listeners with his song “Mile sur meraa tumhaaraa” that was widely aired on TV channels and played on silver screen. 


The memories of Bhimsen Joshi will remain intact in the minds of the lovers of Indian classical songs, khayaals and bhajans for many years. His name will always be written in golden letters in the history books of Indian classical music.
