1000 Ton Gold Treasure Hunt at Daundiya Kheda, Unnao - ASI Begins Excavation for Buried Treasure

- Harish Jharia

An unknown sadhu Swami Shobhan Sarkar of Sri Shobhan Ashram, Daundiya Kheda, Unnao, reportedly had a dream that the ex-local ruler Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh talked to him. The raja told Shobhan Sarkar in his dream, about a huge golden treasure buried under a mound in the premises of the royal fort situated at Daundiya Kheda, Unnao, now in ruins.

This information about sadhu’s dream has not been disclosed by Swami Shobhan Sarkar himself, who has not come in front of cameras or spoken to the media as yet. Instead, his disciple Swami Om ji Awasthi is speaking on his behalf. The spokesperson has informed that the highly respected local seer Shobhan Sarkar had told the Union minister Charan Das Mahant that the country’s financial troubles will be eradicated if the gold was excavated and deposited in the government treasury.

It is further reported that consequently, the central government directed the district magistrate of Unnao on September 3 to for making arrangements for the excavation. On the directives of the district administration and the government, a team of the ASI officials surveyed the area indicated by the saint. The ASI spokespersons subsequently said that they had found signs of the presence of the nonmagnetic / nonconductive material / metal at 15-20 metre depth. Some TV channels reported the depth as 15 – 20 feet.

Eventually, Shobhan Sarkar performed a pooja at the spot before the sunrise and excavation started by ASI personnel on 19 October 2013. By that time the unknown village Daundiya Kheda of Unnao district, captured a prominent place on the world map. TV crews journalists of print media from all over the world, converged at this hamlet inhabited by poor farmers and farm laborers.

What are dreams:

The sadhu says that he has seen a dream and talked to Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh. Firstly you cannot see anybody without light and without your eyes open. You cannot see the king if he is not present in front of your eyes and thoroughly illuminated for the human eyes to form an image on the retina. In fact dreams are sensations of the thoughts that human brain keeps thinking in deep sleeps. If the sadhu has dreamt about a treasure-trove, that means he must be thinking about some treasure buried underground. It has nothing to do with any real treasure.

Read more about dreams: Do we really see and watch dreams while sleeping…?

Is the story of treasure-trove dream true or fake:

This is the first question that flashes in our mind when we come across this medieval theory of a sadhu dreaming about a treasure-trove of a king who lived 160 years back. The king appears in person in the year 2013 and tells the sadhu about the exact location as precise as the area of a small room ie 10’ x 10’.

The most unbelievable part of the episode is the unit of weight declared by the sadhu and that is in ‘Tons’. The sadhu claims that the treasure has 1000 Ton gold. In other reports TV news bulletins were also talking of 2500 Tons of gold. It looks as if all of these people are making fool of we Indians and the Indian government has acted in yet more thoughtless way by ordering the excavation.

Now, it is left to the readers to decide whether the treasure-trove story is true or fake.

The deadly cyclone is expected to hit Gopalpur of Orissa, India at about 8pm India time today, 12 October 2013 at a speed of 220 kmph. The Phailine Cyclone is going to sustain for about 6 hours minimum.

In addition to Orissa, where Phailine is going to devastate the most, this cyclone will also hit Andhra Pradesh coast and West Bengal seashores severely.  Today on 12 October 2013 at noon rain and wind lashed India's east coast and forced about 4,50,000 people to flee their habitats and take shelter in government camps.

Spreading over most of the waters of Bay of Bengal, the cyclone Phailin was about 200 km (124 miles) offshore at noon on Saturday and was expected to hit the land by late evening. As per the estimates of the weather forecast authorities, It expected to be a "super cyclone", and is expected to affect 12 million people.

It is for the first time that the government has taken advance evacuation of people as disaster management process in India. Indian Army, Navy and Air Force have been pressed in attending to rescue operations. The weather forecast department is keeping content vigil on the progress of the super cyclone. Sources from the National Disaster Management Authority NDMA and National Disaster Response Force NDRF have said that more than 440,000 people have been evacuated, as disaster management action and this is one of the largest evacuations ever undertaken in India.

People are advised not to panic and better keep cool and move to safer places as and when advised by the rescuing personnel. The advance preparations made by the authorities will definitely minimize losses of lives to the super cyclone Phailine.

Uttarakhand floods - Indian politicians reaping political advantages out of Kedarnath cloudbursts catastrphe

- Harish Jharia

Indian state Uttarakhand witnessed a nightmarish catastrophe on 16th and 17th June that started with heavy rains on Kedarnath Mountains, followed by cloudbursts, killing a thousand plus people and devastating billions of Rupees of properties of the holy shrine Kedarnath Dham and hundreds of villages in its vicinity.

The Uttarakhand state government, the district administration and other self-governing bodies miserably failed to evacuate the stranded pilgrims from the devastated pilgrimage township. The authorities also ignored the widespread devastation across the hundred odd villages and the starving people of those villages of Gadhwal Hills.

Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh and the ruling alliance UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi went on an aerial survey of the devastated area of Kedarnath Mountains. Their aerial surveillance of the leaders resulted in huge deployment of army personnel including Indian Army, Indian Air force, ITBP, and other paramilitary forces. These armed forces and paramilitary personnel did exemplary services to the stranded people and saving lives of thousands of pilgrims in Kedarnath and elsewhere in the flood affected Himalayan valley.

At the same time, the Indian politicians, especially from the ruling party in Uttarakhand and in the center, were busy in reaping political advantages by showing off their efforts in serving and helping the flood affected pilgrims. The most visible and widely publicized act was supplying food and relief material to the marooned people in the Himalayan pilgrimage.

TV news channels beamed clips of trucks carrying relief material for the stranded pilgrims at Kedarnath hilly areas. It was declared that the relief material was sent by the government; at the same time, the trucks loaded with food and basic necessities were wrapped with huge banners displaying imaged of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. The banners also were carried captions of ‘Youth Congress’.  Some snaps of Sonia Gandhi flagging off truck fleets loaded with relief material along with her son Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders were also releases to the media.

The chief minister of Uttarakhand refused permission to other state governments of Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh etc, when they offered to join the evacuation and relief operations in the Himalayan devastated hills. They even refused entry for trucks that were proposed to be sent by other state governments. The obvious reason for this arrogant refusal of humanitarian help was that the other chief ministers were heading non-congress governments.

A couple of Congress spokespersons kept justifying Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s refusal of permission to other Indian states governments for the evacuation and rehabilitation mission. Nevertheless, the Uttarakhand government has accepted that they failed in saving the lives of thousands of pilgrims and billions of Rupees of properties.

16th June Uttarakhand floods and cloudburst on Kedarnath Hills: how could the disaster be minimized?

- Harish Jharia

How and why did the devastation occur:

16 June 2013 was the worst day in the history of Kedarnath shrine that turned into a real hell for the next 24 hours until 17th June 2013, stranding 50,000 plus pilgrims, leaving more than 19,000 people missing and 5000 feared dead in the catastrophe.

The nightmarish deadly episode is believed to have been initiated with incessant heavy rains followed by a massive cloudburst that resulted in fragmentation and landslides of Kedar Dome Mountain due to enormous accumulation of water in the valley.  Huge masses of mud silt and rocks along with heavy floods of rainwater swept down the mountains engulfing the Kedarnath Shrine and the township around the holy pilgrimage.

The weather conditions in the valley started deteriorating on Saturday the 16th June and turned into a mammoth devastating machine after Mandakini River began to swell and enormous floodwater swept down the mountains. Subsequently, in the early hours of Sunday the 17th June, the deadly cloudburst took place and a huge volume of rainwater flooded down the hills with massive deadly force.

Huge rocks broke away from Kedar Dome Mountain and rolled down towards the Kedarnath Shrine. These mammoth rocks got stuck at some distance from the temple, thereby forming an obstruction for the flooding water, mud silt and debris to strike the Kedarnath Temple. These rocks diverted the direction of the flow of mud and sludge, away from the main temple and prevented its destruction. Nevertheless, the ‘Himalayan Tsunami’ devastated everything else in the Kedarnath Township that came in its way.

Where the Government failed in protecting Kedarnath Shrine and pilgrims:
  1. The cloudburst, fragmentation of mountain and floods were natural disasters that could not be stopped or averted by human efforts. Nevertheless, proper advanced precautions, weather forecasting arrangements and hi-altitude civic management (town planning) could have reduced the devastation and deaths of thousands of innocent pilgrims.
  2. Weather / Cloudburst forecast and precautions:
  3. There is a misconception in the minds of people and the government that ‘cloudbursts’ cannot be predicted. Experts say that tailor-made cloudburst forecast equipments are available in the world that could be installed at places like Kedarnath, Badrinath etc where thousands of pilgrims use to visit round the year. Such infrastructures may also be installed at the tourists’ places at hi-altitudes where possibilities of cloudbursts are there.
  4. The authorities should also take precautionary measures for reducing the probable devastation and deaths. They could be something like the following:
  5. Hi-tech weather and cloudburst forecasting infrastructure should be installed at these vulnerable places.
  6. Huge and strong concrete walls should be constructed around the shrines and localities at the bases of the hills, in order to divert the flow of flood waters.
  7. Deep rooted trees and thick shrubs should be grown on the hills and mountains for avoiding landslides and fragmentation of the hills and mountains.
  8. All the hilly roads should have extra strong reinforcement done along the slopes beside them.
  9. Extra strong reinforcement is also required to be provided at the banks of rivers like Mandakini where residential buildings, hotels and commercial structures are constructed alongside. Many buildings were uprooted and catapulted when the flood-waters swept away the earth at riverbanks during the Kedarnath catastrophe.

Disaster management:

Disaster Management, an essential requirement in modern-day civic life is practically nonexistent in India. India will have to work on something like the following lines:
  1. We should have an effective Disaster Management infrastructure and a dedicated workforce to implement its activities.
  2. There should be a laid-down drill specified for the Disaster Management Authorities without any confusion, bias or prejudice.
  3. The State Government as well as the Central Government should be equally responsible for addressing the emergency crisis.
  4. The concerned Collector, state and central Ministers and other civic officials should reach the affected place or at the nearest possible locations for managing the activities of Disaster Management.
  5. There should be a time limit for attending to each action viz- initialization; food & water supply; rescue operation; recovery of essential commodities, currency and treasures; medical assistance and escorting people to the nearest location or facilities to their destinations etc.

Pakistan troops attack Indian army’s patrol party, kill two soldiers and mutilate a dead body: Pro Pakistan Indian lobby keeps extending hands for friendship

© Harish Jharia

There has been a constant escalation in violation of ceasefire by Pakistan across the LOC line of control in the recent past. Pakistani troops fired mortar shells towards Indian army posts on 6th January 2013. Many of the shells landed across the LOC, close to the civilian habitation.

Pakistani troops continued their provocative tactics by escalating the degree of hatred and brutality by intruding across the LOC in the Indian territory, opening gunfire at an Indian patrol party killing two of Indian soldiers and seriously injuring a third one. They then mutilated one of the dead bodies.

This attack of Pakistani troops was a cowardice act. Nevertheless, it is hard to understand as to why not the Indian government ordered their own troops to chase the infiltrators up to their own posts and take suitable and appropriate retaliatory military action?

Indian ministers and officials should take effective and appropriate action immediately, rather than warning the enemies “not to repeat the same in future”. This is an escapist way of operating armed forces and the Ministry of Defense.

Armed forces have their own systems of operation. They should be given freedom to take ‘on-the-spot’ decisions and retaliate against aggressions and attacks by the neighboring country, spontaneously. The Ministries of Defense and External Affairs should support the actions of Armed forces on domestic, bilateral and international levels.

Pro Pakistan lobby in India has left no stone unturned in the pursuit of calling Pakistani singers, actors, cricketers, intellectuals and NGOs etc  to India, unilaterally in the name of peace and friendship. On the other hand the Pakistanis never returned the Indian gesture in similar spirit.

India has emerged as an insensitive soft state forgetting repeated attacks by Pakistan army; intrusion, blasts and mass killings by terrorists trained in Pakistani camps and ignoring the safe heaven provided by Pakistan to fugitive underworld dons.

Following are very few of the hundreds of Indo-Pak conflicts initiated by Pakistan army; Pakistan sponsored insurgents and or Pakistani terrorists:
  1. The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks consisted of twelve coordinated gun shootings and bomb attacks across Mumbai, by Pakistani terrorists, who were trained in Pakistan and came all the way from Pakistan via Arabian Sea. The terrorists killed 164 Indians citizens, wounded 164 innocent people and devastated properties worth millions of Dollars. It has also been revealed that Pakistan Army provided technological and logistic support to these terrorists in planning and executing the barbaric killings and devastation of properties for many days.
  2. The 2001 Indian Parliament attack was a historic attack by Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists from Pakistan, on the Parliament House in New Delhi, on 13 December 2001. This terrorist attack has been recorded in Indian history books in black letters as it was a clear war waged against the Indian republic.
  3. The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May to July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC). Pakistani soldiers between 26,000 and 33,000 crossed the Line of Control dressed as Kashmiri locals on August 5, 1965. The Indian army suffered 3,000 battlefield deaths, while Pakistan suffered 3,800. The Indian army was in possession of 710 miles² (1,800 km²) of Pakistani territory and the Pakistan army held 210 mile² (550 km²) of Indian Territory.
  4. The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 was a result of skirmishes between Pakistan and India that took place between April to September 1965.  This conflict, known as the Second Kashmir War was fought between India and Pakistan over the disputed region of Kashmir. The first Kashmir war was fought in 1947. The war began following Pakistan's Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate an insurgency against the rule by India. The five-week war caused thousands of casualties on both sides. It ended after an intervention of the United Nations UN into a ceasefire and the subsequent issuance of the Tashkent Declaration.
In a recent debate on a TV channel an ex Pakistani admiral lost his temper and reminded the channel host about the nuclear status of Pakistan. He ignored the fact that Pakistan has a borrowed nuclear capability against the much advanced self-reliant and stronger nuclear power developed by India.

In spite of the unilateral animosity and hostility practiced by Pakistan, India continues to be a soft state and unresponsive to the aggressive treatment by the neighboring country.  In addition to the Indian government’s lackluster attitude, a pro Pakistan lobby in India is shouting slogans for maintaining peace and extending hands of friendship with Pakistan. TV reality shows are designed specifically for participation of Pakistani artists and film stars. Bollywood has also been crowded by Pakistani actors, music directors and singers; whereas, thousands of Indian aspirants are struggling in the Mumbai film industry for their first break.

Pakistani insurgents and terrorists are not a threat for India only; they are equally posing constant danger for the innocent Pakistani public. I happened to meet a Pakistani family on-board a flight from Europe to the US. They were originally hailing from Sindh Pakistan but settled in the US. They revealed a stunning fact that their 9 year old daughter had not yet visited their home in Sindh, Pakistan.  The reason they gave for the same was yet more shocking. They said that girls were not safe in their hometown and they did not take their daughter there, out of a fear of her probable abduction.

Who are juveniles… Why do they enjoy immunity against sentences for heinous crimes, gang rapes and murders?

These children are juvenile (किशोर)...
But the fully grown 16 to 18 year old are not juvenile (किशोर)...

Relevant contents of this article have been sent to the Justice Verma Commission, set up by the Indian government to recommend ways and means to combat rapes. I have submitted my suggestions to reduce the existing 18 year age specified for juveniles to a much lower age between 12 to 15 years and remove immunity to the fully grown men aged between 16 to 18 and eventually end rape impunity.

© Harish Jharia

‘Juvenile’ is the legal name for the individuals who are under 18 years of age. In other words minors are called juveniles in legal vocabulary.  Juveniles are also called minors, adolescents and किशोर in Hindi. That means an individual would be called juvenile until the last second of the midnight when he or she becomes 18 years of age.

There are special provisions in the Indian constitution provided for protection of juveniles against any social or legal punishments awarded to them. ‘The juvenile justice (care and protection of children) act 2000’ empowers district administrations to constitute ‘Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs)’. These boards have enormous powers even for reversing punishments awarded by courts.

In the recent Delhi gang rape case on 16 December 2012 a 17 ½ years old minor boy played the main role of luring the victim and her male friend for boarding the doomed bus.  He is reported to have raped the girl and actively participated in all other barbaric acts including beating the couple brutally and pushing them out of the running bus; that eventually ended up in the death of the gang rape victim girl.

In another brutal incident, a young man raped a six year girl-child, chopped her body into small pieces and threw the pieces of her body in two different toilets. The trial court awarded him death sentence for the immoral, inhuman and heinous crime. Nevertheless, he approached the Supreme Court who declared him a juvenile and set aside the conviction of death sentence. The case was then forwarded to the Juvenile Justice Board that is empowered to sentence the convict for a maximum detention of three years.

The juvenile justice act was formulated for providing protection to children. Nevertheless, the definition of juvenile was stretched across all the teenaged minors up to the age of 17-18 years. The age of 17-18 years appears to be too much as far as it is related to the entity of ‘child’. How 17-18 year old men could be treated as children, who have already attained puberty long back and developed sexual reproductive capabilities.

Boys and girls begin their puberty at the age of 12 approximately, when they develop male and female hormones in their body. Subsequently, they become matured and develop sexual reproductive systems in their bodies at the age of 15-16. Therefore, the childhood of boys and girls finishes at 12 and at 15-16 years of age they do not remain children any more. In fact, they become adolescent at this stage of their lives.

In view of the above arguments, the 17-18 year old boys and girls considered as juvenile for enjoying children’s rights, appear to be unjustified. Therefore, an amendment to the constitution should be brought to disapprove the present definition of juvenile based on the age of the person

The parameters of juvenile should be revises in the following manner:
  1. 18 year age of ‘minority’ should not be the parameter for juvenile.
  2. One should be declared a juvenile based on the stage of his puberty he / she attains at a particular time.
  3. One should not be considered a juvenile above the age of 15 in any case.
  4. One should be definitely considered a juvenile up to the age of 12.
  5. A suitable age between 12 and 15 could be specified as the maximum age for a juvenile.
  6. The Indian parliament may constitute a committee of experts for finalizing the specified maximum age of a juvenile.
  7. Finally, a proper constitutional procedure may be followed for making amendments to the existing laws and the ‘The juvenile justice (care and protection of children) act 2000’

Delhi Gang Rape December 2012: How to stop rapes and gang rapes in India?

Still image of the indecent rustic video of Celkon: See Sr No: 13 below

© Harish Jharia

Before exploring an answer for the question “What should we do to stop rapes in India?” it would be indispensable to explore another question that is “Who are responsible for rapes in India?” It would not be possible for India to stop rapes in India without hitting at these two entities that are the ‘disease behind rapes’ and the ‘treatment’ for the same. We cannot treat an ailment unless we diagnose the disease.

Rape is the resultant indicator of perverted sex syndrome predominantly present in a huge population of Indian people. These perverts do not have any definite choice for gender or age of their prey. They would molest a girl or boy irrespective of their gender. These perverts are so very insensitive and hardcore rapists that they might molest women of any age. Not only teenager girls and young women are their targets, they would not even spare a few month young babies as well as ninety year old grandmas either.  They are real beasts and brutal dangers for women of India.

The above introduction of the article is self-explanatory. Craving for rapes and the basic instinct of perverted sex is predominantly present in Indian people. Therefore, only sterner police action and speedy judiciary are not going to eradicate rapes from India. We will have to change the culture and psychology of Indian people who look at their female counterparts as sex symbols and not as other human beings.

I do not mean that all Indian men are hawkeyed, craving for woman preys. The civilized people in India are as decent as their counterparts in other countries. They do respect their womenfolk, take care of their wellbeing and safeguard their modesty.  Nevertheless, quite a big population of men living in villages, small towns, downtowns and slums in big cities, suffer from perverted desire for eve teasing, touching and fiddling with women and molesting them.

These miscreants fiddle with women of all ages, indiscriminately whether they are strangers, acquaintances or even close relations. These inhuman beasts are as dangerous for cousins and nieces at homes as they are for strangers in public places. They do their heinous crimes anytime, anywhere and against anybody.

The recent Delhi gang rape committed on 16 December 2012 has caught the Indian government and Delhi Police at wrong foot. It has stunned and alerted all walks of civic life and the law enforcement agencies in India. It is the high time when we should explore ways and measures to eradicate rapes and gang rapes from India.

The role of police and judiciary is to develop a sort of deterrent against occurrences of rapes and gang rapes and punish the culprits for their crimes with exemplary punishments. Nevertheless, they cannot eradicate the deep-rooted perverted sex syndrome present among the people. The people, including men and women, will have to come forward to overhaul the social fabric in order to remove this heinous criminal psych from our society.

Men will have to change themselves and their lustful attitude against women. At the same time the women must also follow all the remedial measures for avoiding occurrences of rapes and gang rapes.

Here are few points that could be considered for accomplishing this mission:
  1. Indian families should keep vigilant eyes on their children and ensure that they do not become preys to the perverted sexual advances of near relations, friends and strangers.
  2. Indian heads of families should also ensure that any family member does not develop perverted sex desires and eventually turn into rapists.
  3. Heads of families should also take stringent safety measures for safeguarding their boys, girls and women against any probable fiddling, molestation and rape by insiders and outsiders.
  4. Even homes are not safe for daughters and sisters in India. A 17 year young girl molested by bus crews on the new-year eve in Delhi, has revealed that she left her home after having raped by her brother.
  5. In another case in Greater Noida, a handicapped girl has been sexually molested by her father.
  6. Girls and women should not venture out at night in secluded places where antisocial elements with perverted mindset might be waiting for their soft targets.
  7. Women activists should remember that this mission is anti-rape and anti-molestation. Such heinous crimes are committed by certain categories of men that have perverted sexual craving. The entire male population should not be held responsible for that.
  8. The media and women activists should not overreact on certain comments and advices of some celebrities who are supporting this mission in their own way.
  9. Women and media are straightaway rejecting every single advice given for girls and women. They unilaterally want to change the menfolk and in no way prepared for any change for womenfolk.
  10. Women activists even go to the extent to condemn the possessiveness and compassion of parents who are worried for their daughter’s safety and follow certain family discipline.
  11. Families and parents should not be condemned for following codes of conduct for their children and blame them for following double standards for boys and girls.
  12. TV channels are telecasting filthy advertisements of condoms, body sprays, and other utility items with visuals and messages showing intimate sexual visuals and low grade filthy dialogues.
  13. Examples- 1: A mobile Advertisement featuring Virat Kohly says in a rustic language - “...मेरे पास लड़की पटाने के दो आइडियाज़ है...” (shameful…) this advertisement projects woman as a prey for flirting by men.
  14. Example- 2: In a body-powder Advertisement, a background voice says - “Just Zatak her…” (shameful…)
  15. Such advertisements should be taken off from the media and be censored well before clearing for telecast.
  16. Bollywood celebrities are posting messages on internet and telecasting comments condemning the Delhi gang rape. On the other hand, film makers do not stop featuring women in highly reveling outfits, singing and dancing in indecent manners in item numbers in their films.

India Tops In Road Accidents Death Toll In The World: Are Accident Victims The Main Culprits..?

© Harish Jharia

In recent surveys, India has emerges as the most vulnerable country in respect of death tolls in road accidents. It is revealed from the statistics that 14 Indians died every hour in road accidents in the year 2009 and the annual death toll in road accidents in India is the whooping number of 135,000 deaths of humans in a year.

It looks as if human life has no worth in India because 14 deaths per hour looks like a massacre and not accidental deaths. But this is a fact that it happens out of accidents in India.
Such a high toll of human lives in road accidents raises questions in our minds as to…
Why only India and not America or Russia earned this horrific global distinction?
What are the factors responsible for such a high scale loss of lives in India?

Who should be held responsible for this indiscriminate human slaughter in this country?

The simple answer to these questions is that the system, the culture and the people of India are responsible for these unbelievable human killings in road accidents. Let us discuss these three factors individually:

The System: The system means the government and the authorities under the control of the governments should be held responsible for these deaths. The central (federal) government, the state governments, the highways / roads authorities and the respective police forces are responsible, at the first place, for their gross negligence and for failing to provide the basic facilities of road management and protecting the lives of the road-users in common public areas.  Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. The governmental authorities have not developed adequate infrastructures like broad roads, one-way roads, flyovers, walkovers, subways etc, for sustaining the huge traffic on the roads, well before permitting the automobile industries and automobile dealers to manufacture and sell billions of cars, bikes, scooters, buses, trucks, tankers in India.
  2. The authorities have not provided adequate traffic lights, on the intersections and road-crossings.
  3. The authorities do not provide adequate police personnel on the road crossings and along the roads for guiding and controlling the road traffic.
  4. The authorities have not made any training programs, workshops or refreshers’ courses for drivers, pedestrians and other road users for educating them about road safety and traffic rules.
  5. The authorities do not plan and implement any precautionary measure for avoiding probable road accidents.
The culture: India lacks in civic culture and public behavior in common public places mainly on roads. Venturing out on Indian roads is a nightmare for the drivers as well as the pedestrians, because, the other road users out there on the road, might do something disgusting and putting your life under deadly risk. Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. There is no meaning of one-way-roads in India because people use both the ‘to-and-fro’ roads independently and there is nobody to stop them from doing so.
  2. You will have to be watchful and careful while driving along a road divider, because, pedestrians might jump across the 3-4 feet high road divider and appear right in front of your car.
  3. You should be watchful and careful with other drivers who might appear right in front of your car from right, left or center.
  4. Blowing horn or honking loud might not deter some particular pedestrians because; their ears might be plugged with earphones blaring with yet louder music from their mobile phones.
  5. Indian roads are indiscriminately open for bicycle riders and cycle-rickshaws, those never follow any traffic rules and do not stop at red traffic lights.
  6. Motorbike riders and auto rickshaw drivers are the other law breakers those do not follow traffic rules and create problems for other road users.
  7. The most dangerous entities among Indian road users are the commercial vehicles like taxis  school buses, city buses, trucks, tankers and tractors. The commercial automobile drivers drive rash and commit the maximum road traffic crimes.
The people: We, the people of India, are responsible for all these accidental mishaps that are happening with us and occurring right in front of us. We are the people, who are running the governments, drive automobiles, move around on roads and carry the legacy of culture. Therefore, we will have to improve upon ourselves rather than accusing the governments and authorities. Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. To know how the common people are responsible for road accidents, an advertisement of CEAT Bike Tires with the title “The streets are filled with idiots” conveys a clear message.  Pleas click on the title and watch the commercial video on YouTube.
  2. We, as pedestrians and bicycle riders, break traffic rules the most and become the worst sufferers of road accident deaths. Therefore, we will have to follow all the traffic rules while walking on the roads or riding bicycles.
  3. We should not drive vehicles under intoxication.
  4. We should not use mobile phones while driving.
  5. We should not eat breakfast while driving.
  6. We should not let our minor children (without driving license) drive automobiles.
  7. We should follow all the traffic rules and drive vehicles with patience.
  8. We should not lose our temper out of road rage while driving.
  9. We should ensure that the steering, accelerator, brake and clutch of our vehicle are in perfect working condition.
  10. We should ensure that the front wheels of our car are balanced by an expert technician.

Low Casts in Hindus: We Indians violate human rights as long as we follow caste system...

Imagine yourself in place of the man in a manhole in Channai (Madras), India
Indian form of Apartheid: It is a clear case of Human Rights' violation...

Name a profession and we have a caste for it. It is not essential for you to follow the profession that is depicted by your caste; yet, in spite of your present job you will be branded with the profession based caste, your ancestors belonged to.

Harry Potter would have been fighting against social discrimination, had that character born in India. Because the 'Potters' do not belong to the so called upper-castes category in India. Similarly, former Russian head of state Stalin who ruled the USSR from  6 May 1941 to 5 March 1953 until his death, should be thankful to the almighty for giving him birth in Russia rather than in India; lest he would have been treated as an untouchable, because he was born to a cobbler (shoemaker).

We should stop talking about democracy and human rights as long as the words dalits, low castes, shudras, and the names of a few castes that are used as abuses exist in our vocabulary.

The castes in India are also considered and practiced as upper-castes and lower-castes. People belonging to lower castes are treated, as untouchables in this modern era of corporate world and are not even permitted to enter the temples of their religion. On the other hand people of the upper caste even use prefixed titles before their names for declaring their caste with pride; whereas, the dalits would be looked-down if their inherited identity is disclosed.

In a recent TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' hosted by film-star Amir Khan, the dalits belonging to Christian, Muslim and Sikh religions have disclosed the inhuman treatment meted out to them. In today's India the low-caste Dalit Christians have their own Churches as the normal Churches are out of bounds for them. Dalit Muslims said on the TV show that they are treated as low cast and untouchables once they leave the gates of Mosques or Id-gahs. Even in Pakistan there is rampant discrimination between upper-cast and lower-cast Muslims. Similarly, Mazhabi Sikhs also face rampant discrimination in their society.

Naturally, the social discrimination described in the preceding paragraph is specifically present among the people, converted from Hindu religion to Christianity, Islam and Sikhism and among those who are living in  India, Bangladesh and Pakistan or elsewhere.

The system of arranged marriage is one of the core foundations of the caste-system prevailing in our country (India).  The violators of arranged marriage system are either declared out-castes or are even assassinated, if any boys and girls belonging to different castes of the same religion attempt to marry. There are reports of mob violence and riots taking place in rural areas as a result of inter-caste marriages.

Dalits (low castes) are not only found in the modern days, in Hidus, even the dalits who have been converted into other religions also are branded as low-castes. The caste based social discrimination is also used by politicians as a tool for inflating their vote banks for winning elections by unfair means.

Thousands of years back, the local village-heads discovered and implemented castes just for keeping slaves for doing all the chores for them. We will have to remove all the castes from the Hindus and let everyone live with self-respect, dignity and peace. If we do it today we will be remembered by our future generations in the time to come.

Anna Hazare’s Struggle for Lokpal: Should the Gram Sabhas Be Made More Powerful than the Lok Sabha?

© Harish Jharia

I am an ardent supporter of Anna Hazare’s struggle against corruption and black money. I also support wholeheartedly the countrywide movement for establishing the Lokpal authority for keeping vigilant eye on the people in the legislature, bureaucracy and the judiciary in order to control corruption in all the levels of governance. I am also of the opinion that the voters should have rights to recall the elected representative if he / she do not discharge duties allotted to him / her or earns disproportionate wealth out of corrupt practices and bribes. I support Anna Hazare’s proposal of including an additional option on the ballot papers for the voters to ‘vote for none’ amongst the candidates enlisted on the ballot papers.

In spite of my unconditional support to Anna Hazare’s movements I have certain doubts about his demands in respect of the ‘Gram Sabha’. These doubts have become even more complicated when I came to know that he has declared to go for an equally strong movement for seeking substantially more powers for the gram sabha as compared to the ‘Lok Sabha’.

He has also demanded a ‘Referendum Commission’ on the lines of the election commission.

Let us discuss about the constitutional powers proposed by Anna Hazare for the gram sabha vis-à-vis the Lok Sabha.  We all know about the Lok Sabha; its position and powers in order to run the governments in the country. Nevertheless, we do not know much about the gram sabha that has been proposed to be made much more powerful than the Lok Sabha.

The general body meeting of gram sabha in progress

Gram Sabha:

I did not know anything about this body called ‘Gram Sabha’ until Anna Hazare mentioned its name repeatedly during his Lokpal Bill movement. I would like to share the information that I could extract from various sites and what all I could understand about the Gram Sabha. Let me enlist the information point wise as follows:
  1. There are Gram Panchayats constituted out of elected representatives of any village. These are the ‘Governing Bodies’ of the villages’ self-governing bodies that look after implementation of plans and other policies of the state government and the central government.
  2. The Gram Sabha is constituted out of the voters of that village who elect the Panchayat representatives for forming the Gram Panchayat body.
  3. Gram Sabha can be termed as the ‘General Body’ of the village panchayat. Meetings of the gram sabha general body are assembled at regular intervals and the jobs done by the gram panchayat and money spent by them are reviewed and evaluated.
  4. There might be some special powers privileges of the gram sabha for sanctioning of funds, approval of budget and other administrative decisions that are disposed-off in these general body meetings.
In view of the above it is evident that gram sabhas are exclusively meant for the affairs of the specific villages and they have no jurisdiction beyond the territories of the village panchayats. As such how the powers of the gram sabhas can be compared with that of the Lok Sabha. This comparison is just irrelevant and I do not believe that Anna Hazare might have said like that.

Land Acquisition:

Anna Hazare might have mentioned about implemented of land acquisition drives conducted by the state governments or the union government without the consent of the relevant gram panchayat or the owners of the agricultural land.

He might have demanded the right of consent for the gram sabha in case of any land acquisition is implemented in their villages by the governments. He might have said that in case of acquisition of the rural land of the villages the gram sabhas should have the right and powers of accepting or rejecting the proposal for acquisition of village land, either private or public, for the implementation of development projects launched by the state governments or the union government.

He might have said that for land acquisition the gram sabha should have the powers to release the village land for implementation of the projects sanctioned by the central government. That does not mean that Anna Hazare is demanding more powers for Gram Sabha than that of the Lok Sabha.

Indian Government Borrowing Rs 40000 Crore from the Market:

Indian Government Borrowing Rs 40000 Crore from the Market:

- Harish Jharia

Indian government pronounced on Friday that it will borrow Rs 40,000 crore extra from the market, a move impelled by sluggish tax revenues and rising spending obligations. This is the second additional borrowing announced by the government for the current financial year as public finances have been under pressure.

For common men a simple question arises in their mind that what in fact the government is really doing with the financial management of this country. We think that it is a shameful situation for such a big country that it has to borrow loans from the business houses for its survival.

It is even more shameful for the government who has Indian blocked black money worth Rs 79500 Lakh Crore dumped in Swiss Banks + Rs 176000 Crore eaten away by corrupt politicians in 2G scam + 8000 Crore gulped by Commonwealth Games Officials.

We are borrowing 40 thousand Crore only… Just see the following amount of Indian money that has either been dumped in Switzerland or eaten away by corrupt Indian bigwig(s) right under the nose of the Law Makers and Law Enforcement Authorities…

The details goes as follows:

Black Money Of Indian Bigwigs  In Swiss Banks:

$ 1500 billion
= $ 1500 lakh crore
= Rs 79500 lakh crore
=  Rs 79500000000000000 (quite difficult to count or write)

Money Embezzled In 2g Scam By Indian Telecom Minister A Raja And Company:

Rs 1.76 lakh crore
= Rs 1,76,000 crore
= Rs 1760000000000 (quite difficult to count or write)

Misappropriation Of Money In Commonwealth Games By Suresh Kalmadi And Company:

Rs 8000 crore
= Rs 80000000000 (not so easy to count or write)

Note: I might have committed mistakes while writing the figures, calculating and putting zeros. If so would someone correct those errors... Thanks...
