One of my close Sikh friends 'Amarjit Singh Ahluwalia' recorded his religion as Hindu while filling-up his documents at the time of recruitment in a government service in the year 1969...
In fact Hindu families used to volunteer one son each from their families to become a Sikh (शिष्य / disciple) and strengthen Hindu / Sikh forces. Even today, there is no restriction between Sikhs and Hindus on marriages and dining (रोटी / बेटी के व्यवहार में प्रतिबन्ध नहीं है)
Sikh religion was a panth (पंथ / path) at the time of its inception. It was an armed organization of Hindus who were enrolled for fighting against the Moguls and their forced conversion of Hindus into Islam. But the Sikh panth was subsequently recognized as a separate religion by the independent government of India.
Hindu religion is already infected with the inhuman system of castes. Manu Smriti (मनु स्मृति) supported the idea of 4 varnas (वर्ण) that is Brahman (ब्राह्मण), Kshatriya (क्षत्रिय), Vaisya (वैश्य) and Sudra (शूद्र). Nevertheless, after many centuries, the 3rd grade kings and village heads of India discovered thousands of casts for practicing slavery and get their jobs done all for free of cost.
Today you cannot count the number of casts in Hindus. Just name a profession and we have a caste for it.
Shame on us...
With this set of mind any attempt of social reformation in Hinduism resulted into a new religion. We do not have only many Hindu casts ... we also have many pro-Hindu religions...
