Anti-corruption Jan Lokpal Bill: Government of India Gazette Notification appointing Joint Drafting Committee


Under an apparent pressure of the huge aggressive support for of the people of India across the country for Jan Lokpal Bill, as a result of the fast unto death observed by Anna Hazare, the Government of India issued a historic Gazette Notification on April 9, 2011 constituting a 10 member joint drafting committee consisting of 5 members nominated by the Government of India and five members from the Civic Society nominated by the group lead by Anna Hazare. Here is the breakup of the proposed Joint drafting committee: 


Group of Government of India:

1. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Finance, Chairperson
2. M Veerappa Moily, Minister of Law and Justice, Convenor
3. P Chidambaram, Minister of Home Affairs
4. Kapil Sibal, Minister HRD and Telecom Minister and IT
5. Salman Khursheed, Minister of Water Resources and Minority Affairs

Group of Civic Society:

1. Shanti Bhushan, Sr Advocate, Co-Chairperson
2. Anna Hazare
3. Justice N Santosh Hegde
4. Prashan Bhushan, Advocate
5. Arvind Kejriwal

The Joint Drafting Committee has been constituted to draft the constitution of the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill 2011 and complete its job latest by 30th June, 2011.
